I know that new content weekly is good. I'm not sure if daily makes a big difference to Google but it could or at least help in traffic. But I have no clue if updating a certain old article or something, makes any difference to google... does it? Anyone have experience with that?
There are several sites from as early as 2003 that haven't been updated since then that still appear as top 3 search results depending on the topic. For example, search final fantasy 7 game script on google. Or something similar that was majorly popular 6-10 years ago, but not openly discussed as much now. You'll see a lot of top 5 results from 03-06
Only because google values time. If your domain is from 1995, it's going to have high ranking even if its old information. They feel well this website has been here forever, so it must have valuable information to pay for hosting. Of course it depends on the keywords in the article though. I also wonder if weekly updates for a long time, are good because google likes the content or if its because with age your domain authority becomes stronger and thus google ranks you better?
Yea sure!! Google is quite happy in crawling the sites which are updating on daily basis like: wikipedia.org so upload some fresh content to your site/blog to come at top ranks..
Simple answer: YES Fresh content and regular updates by adding quality content to your website is the most important optimization factor
Fresh content as such is not a factor in the ranking algorithm, but it is good practice to increase the pages on your site every day as you are continually building pagerank and strength within your site. I've had sites that I haven't touched for years still ranking for competitive terms. It all comes down to how much authority your site has. If you are in an industry where your competition are very active, then you will *definetly* need to build pages every day otherwise your site will slip, not becuase you triggered the "Freshness" algorithm, simply becuase your competition is getting stronger and your site is stagnant.
Sure - it is very important to keep your content fresh and relevant. You may even get a few natural links this way.
Maintain the quality content is important, better to adding some new content on pages, it is helps to good ranging.
if you update pages often it will tell google crawl to rescan those pages often, this is measured by the page size change i think, and if you add more pages to your site then google will love you. but remember that google has changed its algo recently, i have noticed that its better to have many pages with that keyword than have your home page with a lot of that keyword.
i'm doing some tests on this - I have a site that has not been updated in about 9 months. For my target keyword it is sitting at #17. I have been adding 10 back links a day, but no content. The site has not moved at all in 2 weeks. The additional back links dont even seem to be getting picked up. My other site that is getting updated often, competes for the same keyword. I'm adding 10 back links a day for it too, it is constantly gaining rank in the search engines. the back links are all from similair sites I'm going to wait another week and see what happens, if it doesn't move i'm going to add a blog and see if that makes it increase or not. But i think it is stuck because the content has not been updated in a while
How long does it usually takes to be indexed on Google if I update my website at least twice a week ??
Will adding a blog and updating daily be helpful, or do we need to change the content around sitewide?
I don't think it has much bearing. Ive done just as good on sites that haven't been updated in a year as sites that been updated all the time. It's certainly not worth the hassle of constantly updating your site for a few extra hits (if you even get).
New, fresh content is absolutely essential. Don't just change the article or content on the homepage. It must be new and unspidered by Google to be considered new. Some have rotators to trick Google into thinking that the content is new. Do not do this. Just write fresh content.
