It can be profitable, but with much emphasis on "can" because I think relatively few typo domains actually are.

Since these company names are trademarked, why would you want to run the risk in acquiring a typo name of an established corporation or company, same applies to the poster above you too?

Essentially this amounts to stealing their visitors and their revenue and quite rightly so, these companies have every right to go after individuals / cybersquatters registering these sorts of names.

Is it really worth the risk for a few misely dollars to be sued by a mega large company?

I think the answer is obvious.

If it is a high paying area or high volume typo, then yes. It worked for me anyway. Basically, the user sees a huge ad to the place they want to go (which pays me a lot), or they have to correct the URL themselves. High CTR if you are advertising the site they want to go to.

I do not see how that is possible logically....Is it possible that a company enrolls you for advertising them and still lets you use their typo domain name? They would instead look to buy such domain name out....cheaply.

Maybe I should clarify. It is simply "profitable". It isn't going to make a ton of money. But in 15 minutes you can buy a "typo domain", upload and html file with some ads in it, and get several clicks a day. I have 3 or 4 of these typo sites, and I and I just started this a few weeks ago. One made the $10 registration fee in one day and thus "paid itself off", the others will do so ( at this rate ~$.5-$1 each) , in a few weeks. At the end of the year it isn't a ton of money, but a couple hundred dollars in profit for 15 minutes of work isn't bad.

Basically, if I type a typo domain myself I also check if they are registered yet. If I know it is a decent typo or an OK typo that will display relevant high-paying ads, I take it, insert an index page of ads. In 15min, I register the domain, upload a simple webpage of just ads and a paragraph description rich in keywords. Then setup the googleanalytics and a new channel for that url in adsense. All it needs is to average $.03 a day to break even in a year.

Like I said, it isn't a lot of money, but it is still profit.

I agree, typo domains can be quite profitable. What I do is redirect the domain to a related affiliate offer.I get a few signups here and there everyday (not bad for no work).

You need to choose a pretty good typo domain however.
