LOL, check out my post on what I think of twitter and using it as a blogger: http://zergmoney.com/2009/02/twitter-vs-rss-whats-more-important-to-bloggers/
Twitter is very helpful if your number of followers is high. Everyone is dying to get more followers on twitter. The more followers you have, the better your marketing strategy with twitter will be.
Sure: 1- Join SocialToo and set up a non-spammy autoresponder to direct people to your blog. 2- Pick the most popular person's Twitter account in your niche (just Google your niche keyword followed by "site:twitter.com" to find the contenders) and follow them, along with all of their followers. Take your time. A popular Twitter user will probably have more than 1000+ followers, and you want to follow every last one of them. Once you have more than 300 followers, and if you send regular tweets (even if they are just notices that you ve posted to your blog) then you will get more followers in a short amount of time, and plenty of blog traffic. I've been trying Twitter as a marketing tool for about 2-3 weeks now and am still trying to extract as much as possible from it. I'm hoping my efforts pay off. From what I've seen so far Twitter seems to be good for marketing, but blogging works much much better. Then again, if you already have a blog, the more the merrier. -Aaron
To answer the question of whether Twitter is a good marketing tool I only have to look at the way the people I follow market themselves to me. Whilst nobody wants to be spammed with links and products, I constantly find myself checking out links and blogs by those who put them out there in a subtle way. On that level, it definitely works.
check this http://twitter.com/discusshub I got around 70 followers for my forum posts but I am not posting any affiliate link, because when you post affiliate signups etc people stop following you. hope I answered the question
I agree with davidmethew. Blog posts and links seem to be acceptable, but a blatant affiliate link will lose you followers rather than gaining business. Of course, you can get them to visit your affiliate link indirectly through your blog...
well twitter is a great opportunity to get your articles messages out fast to quite a bunch of people. The more followers the better and the more traffic you can drive to your blog. so provide the people what they like to gain more followers
Twitter like myspace has brought revolution in internet . Twitter also proves how a simple idea can do wonders .
Twitter is ok for telling people about your product and updates, however if you seem to be spamming people (like every post is just another link) people will not follow you.
There is a lot of useful info in the previous messages. A few mistakes I see now that I've been on for awhile: don't have a sales pitch, people want to chat with you first don't say you're a social media guru (unless you really are) There is an unofficial 90/10 rule. (90 percent of your "tweets" should be non-promotional) I realize the above will be frustrating for someone looking for immediate results. It takes time, like making friends in a new town. It can be a great tool however for listening in to other conversations using keyword search and introducing yourself if you have something to add. You can also make friends by "re-tweeting" other comments. People love that because it spreads their influence to all of your followers. Anything automated is probably a waste of time. In the short time I've been using it I feel almost like a veteran and I can smell canned marketing and won't follow back. See ya on Twitter
I posted details on how I use Twitter for marketing in this thread: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1203752
I think twitter is an excellent marketing tool. I always find myself following interesting people on twitter and I have found a load of useful resources and sites by clicking through on links in twitter. I think its a fantastic platform, to brand yourself or your business with.
A great way to get away with including your blog links etc. is to be more friendly, have discussions and then weave in your own links every x number of tweets so it doesn't look spammy. You can also 'retweet' other people's tweets which is a great way to get people to trust you on there. This simply means copying and reposting something (maybe a link) that they just posted.
