twitter is only good for when your products / services are constantly changing or evolving... It is in an easy way to keep your customers up to date regarding these changes.

If using twitter try roll in your twitter acount with your website / bricks'n'mortar shop to get more relevant followers. It's alright having a million followers but if none of them have every bought your product or service before (or are never likely to) then it's pointless updating them about the latest developments surrounding them!

You can get followers quite easily manually and I actually don't recommend you any services as you can get banned for using such things. It's like cheating to get followers.
Also, I don't think it is still good for marketing as nowadays twitter is quite overcrowded. But you can always try.

If you go out of the way to get followers on twitter your are likely to get banned sooner or later. For long term benefits its better to opt for safer ways.

Twitter is a good marketing tool, but only if you have targetted followers. :)

It depends on how you do it. Twitter is really cracking down on the spammers. I read somewhere today that there was a massive ban and maybe tens of thousands of accounts were banned. Some people reported 600+ people missing from their subscribers list.

If you go into twitter with a professional attitude, everything may be ok.

If you go into twitter to spam - your gonna get banned.

    The choice is yours.

twitter traffic is of relatively poor quality, but sometimes you need quantity, not quality :)

We use Twitter not necessarily to drive sales, but to drive information. It's support for your marketing tools, not a marketing tool. It can't stand alone. You can't get across much of a message in 140 characters, but you can direct them to a place where you can get a good message across.

What good is thousand of followers if none of them care what you have to say? With Twitter, as with other social sites (and in life in general), you have to engage with people and make it a two-way conversation. If I talked at you instead of to you you'd probably stop listening really quick. But if you like the idea of having 10,000+ followers you can just follow everyone you can find as a lot of people feel incline to follow you back, but again they probably don't care what you have to say. I'd suggest following people you care enough to read their tweets, tweet relevant comments, and retweet people's tweets. Engagement is key.

Wow this turned to crap pretty fast.

Either way he said makes complete sense. Twitter is useless as a marketing tool if your a spammer or just trying to be the guy with 000's of followers. Like anything else, if your traffic isn't targeted then your wasting your time and you would have been better off spending some time putting together an effective PPC campaign. You'll get better conversion from targeted traffic as opposed to being ignored for free.

What would you prefer? 50,000 followers who couldn't give a hoot about what you tweet or 1000 followers who listen and take action?

Now I'll wait for my turn to get flamed.

:D Actually, this thread was crap from the get go.

But, hey, from all of the noob replies, many of you who don't even know what is going on, you make stuff up to be part of a thread, these threads are very entertaining. Better than TV. :D

Well could you share some of your extensive knowledge and wisdom with me and the OP?

After all he did ask a genuine question and was clearly seeking a genuine answer.

I notice that several of the posters in this thread, by DP standards at least would not be considered noobs but have said that same things that you have criticized so I'm interested to hear your own expert advice.

The other thing I noticed is that while you've attacked all the 'noobs' you still haven't posted your own twitter page to display the authority you have on the topic. Care to post your twitter page or is your purpose here simply to attack and ridicule people who are trying to learn something?

No, because you guys don't listen. You are too wrapped up in noob methods that we don't give a second glance at.

    "DP standards"??? Uhh, okay.

Actually, yes, I am afraid that they do not know much either. Experienced webmasters, who also have a brain, know better.

It's making fun of, and, showing others who genuinely want to learn, that they are full of shit. There's a difference. heh heh

And, um, if I am telling others, along with my readers, that twitter is worthless, and I show why, now why would I have a serious page?

    Ugh.

Sorry I'm having trouble finding where you mentioned that twitter marketing was no good. I can see a few posts saying that but none from you. The first post from you is where you start the name calling. In fact when I look at your post history it seems to be a bit of theme for you.

So let me see if I've got this right.

You're an expert and 'make fun' of noobs based on the information you can gather about them from DP but give no weight to their authority or expertise based on their DP information.
Regular DP forum posters don't know much about anything either and are noobs as well.
You telling 'others and your readers' all the facts but you don't disclose your websites or blogs to show just how many readers you have or what your expertise is because in your opinion no one wants to learn.
You are an experienced webmaster and I should just listen because you said to.
Everyone else should also listen to you because you say so and not because you can support your statements.

I think that about covers it so far.

Awesome. So all I should need to do is make fun of people, tell how great I am and how stupid they are and troll forums so my post count increases then I can profess to be an 'experienced webmaster'

Cool, I like it. Should only take about 3 days to cover all that. What on earth was I thinking spending 12 years training and working as a network engineer and starting up several businesses during that time when all I needed to do was make fun of people and tell them how good I am and how dumb they are.

I've wasted my life. Thank you you've helped to steer me onto the right path.

But seriously perry you remind of of the 12 year old's from the warez and phreaking scene 20 years ago. If your as good as you say you are then back up your claims from your expertise instead of running people down and you might find that life has something better in store for you than what your getting now.

I'm done with you and this thread now so feel free to start paying out on me next and enjoy yourself while take no notice of you.

And have a great day. :)
