Is Twitter Search going to be a storm?

    Hi,

I heard twitter search is actually going to crawl the links that people tweet out and index them too. Isn't that going to be awesome coz tht means you can search the webpages tht people have already curated and are tweeting out.
My question is tht is it going to take over google and the likes?

    Got this Info from telegraph.uk.

Twitter Search would be increasing its reach. At the moment it only searches the text of Twitter posts, but soon will begin to crawl the links included in these posts and index the results.

Twitter plans to index the pages too, which is what Google does. However industry pundits think Twitter Search will be a different kind of powerful search engine, which is focussed more on real-time results.

This is expected to make it faster than Google, mainly thanks to the nature of tweets being speedy to send, as opposed to web pages, which are slow to build. Moreover,Twitter Search would be getting a reputation ranking system soon. This means when a user does a search on a “trending” topic (a topic so popular its gets its own link in the Twitter.com sidebar), Twitter will take into account the reputation of the person who wrote each tweet and rank search results in part based on that.

The way reputation will be calculated is still being figured out by Twitter’s engineers but should make the search experience more streamlined and targeted.

Twitter search will be an interesting addition to the mix but it will never overtake Google as G is a search engine first and everything else 2nd

Twitter will use search as a sideline to their main goal - although I can't see the long term life in Twitter yet? Does anyone know what their long term goal is?

This is good news for the members most especially for blog owners. This is one way to drive traffic to their sites.

    I hate twitter!

I use it only to advertise but personally it's a sick and boring too often updated website!

The hype will fade and twitter will be left standing alone!

Wow this is a really intriguing questions and love the views on it. However i feel that people won't rely on it much. They are all too used to google at this point and don't see anything coming close to Google for years.

Just like Google became a verb, Twitter is on the fast track. Twitters real time search is a game changer. Try searching for news of real time event as it happens on Google vs Twitter, or search for #lost while watching the show to get people reviews/opinions in real time.

I also think it will be less about people using twitter.com and more about twitter integration in other sites.

I think real time search is going to give marketers a new edge they could never have with Google. It's definitely going to be interesting to see how things play out.
