Just some thought provoking questions. With new upstarts like twitter growing extremely fast, with a super simple design, instant global responses, and a recent estimated 100 million dollar investment.. Talks of yahoo and microsoft joining search efforts, google spending a large amount of resources on the algorithm codenamed google caffeine, and no public PR update in months.. Is Twitter (or other sites) Scaring Google?
Twitter can't scare google. The only site threatened google's existence a few years back that too not to a great extent was yahoo! And yahoo is down in earnings than their previous earnings but not out! Twitter is just a social network whereas google is a search engine. They don't even compete with each other. They just complement each other well.
Twitter is a small fry compared to Google. They got plenty and plenty of years to go before Google feels anything but threatened.
I think google does not consider twitter like a real threat for its business model. Simply, I think G always want to be a leader in innovation and new marketing stuff.
I think Social Networking in general scares Google. It looks like their answer to it is Google Wave. We'll see
We will know when Google is scared because they will try to buy twitter! But at the moment Google is not scared.
Twitter has only the fraction of the unique visitors per month that google has ... I think google has somewhere around 170 million "unique visitors" a month while twitter has 20 something million a month.
and google was protect for twitter with ddos lol, i dont think google is scare to twitter, but another can make google care
Why would Google shiver anyway? Even all of the people who are in search of finding Twitter and some relevant resources about it are already searching Google to find them.
I don't think twitter is scaring Google but I am sure they are sorry they didn't come up with this idea
Their both not even in the same market. Google bread and butter is in search while Twitter is for social networking. Besides Google has billions in profit while Twitter doesn't have any ads or revenue yet.
Classic...Twitter is like a flea on a bears back to Google. Google is even getting better at indexing Twitter posts faster than Twitter does. I've done several tests. Search live data...just use Google to search twitter only. Forget Twitter search. Lakelandprinting mentioned the real fear for Google, SM. I predict it won't be long before Facebook out paces Google for traffic, at least for US traffic. What's that mean for Google? Not too much now, but if Facebook figures out how to monopolize it, it could mean sink or swim for the big G.
scared would not be the appropriate word, however I am quite sure that Google is concerned about the long term trend of twitter in that since it is a "walled off" community, people on twitter do real-time search completely independent of Google for breaking news events and trends and if anyone does not think that concerns Google you really have not studied how they operate since their inception. Google's m.o. is to either try to innovate or to simply buy out the competition (like most businesses) however I dont think twitter would sell at this point although in terms of actually showing a profit there is no comparison as twitter makes zip but in terms of the trend of people using twitter to search real time events there is no doubt it concerns Google, and if it doesn't, then it should... or just more generally social media in general but particularly twitter since it differs from sites like myspace and facebook since those sites dont really lend themselves to real-time search which poses more of a long term threat to Googles domination of eyeballs at least in terms of search.
