People that make money DIRECTLY with twitter (9/10 times) are just sleezeballs that sell out. You can make money INDIRECTLY easily by promoting (for example) a new Wordpress theme you made for sale, promote your new blog posts. Over time you get 1,000 followers, then 2,000, etc, etc... Eventually, you have the equivalent to the Digg frontpage following you.
I benefit from using it. I get quite a bit of traffic from it. The only thing I use and not all the time is TweetDeck. I use that because I can put certain people in groups and not lose what there doing. I've also found that tweets can quickly make it to the first page of Google search. Something I'm just starting to play with. Twitter has a high Page Rank. But if you go to most peoples profile page there isn't any. I've got mine up to a PR5.
yes! and I think there lies the secret in bailing out the power of twitter, the only problem is you must know what you give away and you need patience. Is there anyone who has succeeded this way?
As far as building contacts and driving traffic to my ComicNews website it has worked very well for me.
I think if you tweet useful info for a niche, then include limited marketing, it may be effective. But no one cares what you had on your toast this AM.
I tried for months to get into twitter, there are so many applications, and to tell you the truth they are all boring. Twitter is just about useless information overload. facebook I like because there are plenty of pictures of hot chicks and you get to see people you went to high school with 20 years later. which might not always be a good thing. But twitter is useless.. if anything i feel like i lost a few braincells after visiting twitter.. Like i care if someone had a hard time sleeping last night. Is anything with me on this ?
anyone who claims this should elaborate more on this! I guess twitter is more used to tell people things like that: how exciting ...
I think Twitter is a joke. Has anyone ever heard about getting a life? I think forums are a good idea because they are exchanging information, but when people post topics on Twitter saying they bought a pair of shoes or something.....who cares??????
Twitter is not just a hype. It really works for those who know how to exploit it. I think it works better for established brands than the new ones.
Personally, I haven't had success with twitter and it has been months since I logged into my twitter account. I think going by the response to this thread, the twitter is overrated for sure...
I see some big name marketers that have a large follower count claiming to know a lot about twitter. The fact is most don't have a clue. They have large email lists and tell their list members to follow them. That's how they got so many followers. You'll also find out that if you follow them they often will not tweet back to you. They don't want their list to become aware of you. I think it's for different reasons. Some just don't want to dilute their list or their message and lose a sale to another tweeter and some maybe are protecting their followers from idiots. They just don't get it.
Twitter helps me to see what people interested in my niche are up to. I met some cool folks, was invited on Twitter to write a guest post for a related blog. Links that I tweet are clicked 8-12 times, even as I have only 30 followers. And these people read my site, having most page views/visitor from all referring traffic sources. It's not a great promotion medium, but it helps a bit. It's important to have relevant followers that are interested in you and your stuff.
I saw many person on twitter with millions of followers, because he/she tweet, tweet...and only tweets. many of them are maniac. For example - parson with id twetterdotcom/brookeburke, twetterdotcom/ripe4u, etc.
If you are just starting I would start tweeting until I filled my first page. That 20 tweets. Mix it up. Make some comments and ask some questions. You can introduce yourself. Find some good topic related blog posts or sites and give a tweet about them and link to them. After you have something there for someone to see you're real and active. Use Twitter Search to find people tweeting about your topic. Enter the topic and search, it will find and list tweets that contain what you searched for. search.twitter.com/ You can go down the list and you can click on a persons profile pic or user name and go to their profile page. If it looks good click follow. Some people will auto follow you within minutes, some will get around to it in their own time and some will ignore you. But they may decide to follow later. While you're there in the persons sidebar are images of those that person is following. You can click on any of those small pics and it will take you to that persons page where you can follow if you want. If someone does follow say hi to let then know you are real and responsive. Remember when they Tweet to you everyone that follows them can see it. A good way to get noticed and followed.
Social media sites like twitter should be used to have interaction and not for promoting your products. I never click links that dont interest me and besides if some following is spamming my timeline with useless tweets, i just unfollow him/her.
