What's funny is to watch your followers list drop down as Twitter bans these spammers one at a time. Shame they can't keep more of it out though.
I've never had that problem, personally, but I'm not surprised people do! Twitter can be little more than a trash heap of spam sometimes. Best to just do a personal twitter account at first, as promoting a website can definately bring in an odd group.
couldn't agree more. The search engines don't give anywhere near as much weight to these platforms as they used to.
The same thing happened to me. I created a twitter account a month ago and on the second day i found 15 followers to my profile whom i don't know at all. I gave a glance at their tweet and found maximum of them tweeting about Internet Marketing and making money online.
It tends to be full of spam if you are using it for business but if you are using it just for you, then it isn't bad since you only see postings by those people that you follow. Businesses do it to promote their business.
thetwitterbot is one example, but not the one I was thinking of. Google "automate twitter followers" and you'll get quite a few.
I made 315 Tweets on one of my Twitter accounts, all genuine no links, I got just one reply from an American lady who wanted to know what Weetabix was! It used to be great fun but now it's just spam, unless you are well known, as has been pointed out. One day I can see Google slamming this site hard, if it doesn't, it should. Shame.
I don't think there is spamming in twitter, as it is social site any one can use it according to his wish. There are no limitation for any one it all depends upon your mind set and the community whom you are in. Why you consider spamming only in twitter and not in others like Facebook etc
Yes, full of spam. There are also a lot of applications for twitter that "helps" to create spam (add followers and new twitts).
Twitter is a cesspool. It is filled with bots and fake accounts. Totally worthless for marketing and why Google considers the garbage site a useful metric I don't know. It isn't really a social site because there is next to zero social networking actually on the site. Twitter in a word SUCKS!
No doubt... spammers had bombard twitter. But the number of false followers doesn't really matter, because you don't get their updates. Let them be there... you can proceed with your effort in building your genuine network of followers. All the best!
As a promotion tool, Twitter is indeed useless. It's strength relies on the networking possibilities. So how is that supposed to function? Well... when everybody talks, it pays to listen. Find genuine accounts of people who you think would make good contacts (fellow bloggers in similar niches, business owners, enthusiasts etc), follow them and start chatting with them on the topics that they start. Keep the promotion messages to an absolute minimum. You won't get much traffic anyway, but you can obtain useful contacts. Hope this helps. Best regards, George Cozma
