I have a Twitter account now, but before I go spending a bunch of time marketing on it, Does anyone have any advice, good pointers or what really sucks about Twitter marketing and how to avoid the pitfalls?

    Thanks,
    Socialii

Twitter is not the only one. But its a good option to consider because lot of ppl keeep following twitter updates. Twitter APIs are available for every reputed mobile phone model, and ppl could be updated on the go. It also depends on the type of product/service you want to market.

Twitter is a great web utility. People can get updates sent to their phones so they always know what you're doing/ what sites you promote.

Don't get repetetive or people will unfollow you. Sometimes Content is lost amidst all of the clutter on a lot of Social Networking sites.

However if you're trying to get more exposure to all of your social media channels then I'd suggest using a site like sharelinks.co

It's super simple and clean! No Clutter to get lost in.

You can post links to your WHOLE network and "share it" on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Delicious, Digg, StumbleUpon and even do a mass e.mail of just your social networks. It's one of the best tools online

Twitter is a good tool. I think most people only care about what they are posting though.

Yes, this is the main impression I get. I'm not sure people actually listen, the only outwardly sell.

Ya its really good to market a product. Provided no spamming.

You may be considered as twitter spammer, if you do the following:

    * Posting duplicate updates to an account: Posting the same update over and over throughout the day is considered spammy and a possible violation of our terms of service.
    * Cross-posting duplicate updates to multiple accounts: If you post the same update to multiple accounts, you could violate our terms of service.
    * Following churn: Following and unfollowing the same people repeatedly, as well as following and unfollowing those who don’t follow back, are both violations of our terms of service.

Actually we can not depend only on the twitter ya but it's true that twitter is the second giant good social networking site and also a good place to market your products and service.

And you also get targeted traffic diverting on your site. So it's good place for promotion.

It all depends on how it's done and handled as well as what your product is. For example, if your business sells shoes and your handle is @bobsshoesaleupdates then people will only sign up if they want to be updated on shoe sales. You will have a potentially small audience but they will be very interested in what you have to say. In that case, yes. You can also make affiliate marketing work, provided you do a lot to promote yourself and get the right audience.

Indeed! Can anybody give examples of people having made conversions from their Twitter followers? Even freelance services such as translations, proofreading etc. - has anybody found clients using Twitter?
    Thanks :)

People get lost amidst all the clutter on blogs, twitter, YouTube and even on facebook. It's best to put something in front of your users that they easily understand.

Less content on a page increases chances of someone actually clicking on your link.

Try linking all of your networks together with a page that people can share. You can use a service like www.sharelinks.co/share to do this
