Is TV better than books? Do you think TV is better than books. For both arguments, state why you think one is better than the other. My argument is that books are better because 1. There are no advertisements in books. Even if there are (e.g. magazines) you can simply flick through the ads. 2. TV's require electricity and power. They also need to be set up and they can break down too. There is no need for electricity or power for books. Save energy. 3. Books are portable and can be carried around. TV's are less portable. 4. On TV, you are given are limited number of programs to choose from at any one time. There is a huge selection of books in the library. 5. Watching TV only involves passively watching and listening, whilst reading involves actively engaging in the text (i.e. reading). Actively engaging in a task is better way to learn than through passively observing. Also, when reading, you improve your literacy. 6. In society, it is reading and more generally literacy that is valued. We are provided with stacks of paperwork, catalogues, handouts, academic readings (for university students), newspapers etc.
As they say...content is the king..... Books win the race hands down for me.....since lot of crap is dished out on television ...these days. Of course, one can switch channels, but then we have majority of them showing the same stale news or same type-casted serials. Books offer a lot of variety...imo Regards, RightMan
Books are ALWAYS with you wherever you are and you can read no matter when. For TV, I doubt that. Books creates more vivid imagination which is your own, whether you reading Novels, story, biography.. but TV sells the imagination of someone else.. Thats why Books are Best. Digitalduke
I still prefer TV, infact I have a mobilephone that allows me to watch local tv shows during my long commute to and from work.
I prefer books over TV. I can easily stay away from TV for weeks together if I have good books to read.
Anyday I prefer books to TV. Good books are like good friends. TV can give good company it can't become a person's friend! @Digitalduke You said right! TV contains a person's imagination, a book widens it. Still better, read a story to a kid and it would thoroughly enjoy it in its own imagination. Show the story on TV, it would not probably enjoy as much!
I thought I never would say this but books are better. there are only a few t.v series that are good the rest is just crap
I think both are best but I would choice TV as I can see different different things at any time and enjoy the life. You can also learn many things from it. Same thing is book too. Book have advantage that you can carry it anywhere.
Actually there is no match. Books leads the way. My father always loved books and i think he has a huge collection of best Books i have ever seen. Books are everyone Best Friend.
Both can fill your entertainment needs depending on your state of mind. Reading a book requires more concentration, but can also completely capture your attention and imagination to the point where you are experiencing the story through the eyes of the character. TV and movies, though potentially engrossing experiences, cannot provide this level of interaction. However, if you've just come home from a long day of work and you are mentally drained it can be difficult to focus on a book and become absorbed like that. TV is often a welcome distraction if you are physically or mentally fatigued, and despite what its critics say, can potentially be a useful learning tool.
