Might sound like a weird thing to ask in this forum, but I know it'll probably get answered here quite quickly, so here it goes. I'm just wondering if it is. My mate has it...and i'm close to her a lot. If it is how contagious is it? Like is it fine unless i'm kissing her or something? I don't have a clue... Thanks, TS
Do not worry, the tonsils are not going to enter you by kissing or whatever. Tonsillitis isn't contagious!
Thats okay then. It's just cause I said something as a joke yesterday about it and no one knew if it was or not, she didn't ask the doctor or anything so it just got me wondering. That'll be good news for everyone Thanks to both of you
the extremity depends on whether it is caused by virus or bacteria. if its caused by virus, her immune system may fight on its own but bacteria, its hard. and yes it is contagious. it spread just by the contact with the throat or internal fluids (such as nasal fluids) of the perosn who is infected with it.
Okay so now I don't know...2 people saying it isn't and one saying it is? Meh, i'd be taking my chances anyway, she lives with some of my best mates so I'll be there anyway.
as I said depends on the extremity and the cause. of course it wont be contagious by breathing the same air but in contact with fluid from the infected person, it is contagious. well i know that because I recently read that for my med class. otherwise i wouldnt state as a concrete post
are we talking about tonsil pain as in normal flu or tonsillitis (tonsil infection)? either way, most tonsil infections are contagious as stated before by fluid transfer aka droplet transmissions. http://www.drgreene.com/21_1073.html if it goes worst you even have to have it removed surgically.
Twisted, I had Tonsillitis for like 3 years; a pretty bad case and the docs had to operate it out. And from my personal experience, it can be quite contagious if the infection is serious.
Tonsillitis (aka inflammation of the tonsils) is generally caused from a bacterial infection. If her doctor put her on antibiotics then he diagnosed it as bacterial and it is indeed contagious. The good news is that once she is on antibiotics for 24 hours she is no longer contagious.
