Is this worth the investment? (9 - 15k monthly)

I was just wondering what you think about this:

I found a keyword that is searched around 15k monthly (9k from google and the rest of other SEs). I found that the domain is available and I can easily rank high for this keyword 'cause there are no "fan sites" for them. I'm also planning on using adsense and maybe some affiliate links..

The competition is also 1 million... so is this a good keyword?

Do you think it's a good investment to build the site and domain? (shouldn't cost more than a few hours of my time and $30 in total).

    Your thoughts? Thanks :)

well for only $30 (if this is in your reach) then its worth a shot. Like if its 9k from google and the keyword.com is available i wouldnt be here posting about it... i'd be in godaddy registering the domain.

EDIT: ps, i think your damn hot!

you should just think about that, why other internet marketer haven't find that keywords + on that keyword 1) are you seeing a google ads 2) is there any affiliates for this, etc etc ? check on cj, clickbank, linkshare.. and you will know the answer just in 15 minutes :p , don't wait, another wise domain company will pickup the precious domain name, once their script notice that Today How many fools leave the precious domain name ! Its my personal experience, i lost two domain name, because of my lazyness.

Are the number of compititors small or big compaired to the search?
You should consider that too :)

I'd like to hear the full story on this too.

I'd take 15k traffic a month in a niche, that could turn into a real nice site! :)

8everything, the scenario you describe seems to have lots of potential. A major key for you will be how you develop the site — especially in the sense of adding relevant content. Let me offer a case in point.

    • I have one keyword that (like yours) get about 15,000 searches a month, per Overture. It is my best keyword, and my website is chock full of content related to it. The word varies from #3 to #5 on Google’s first page. And out of those nearly 15,000 searches, it receives about 900 visits a month, each visitor staying on for nearly five minutes, and with a nice low “bounce” rate of 35%.

    • By contrast, I have another keyword that, according to Overture, gets 232,000 searches a month. Even though I rank #5 on Google for that word, from those 232,000 searches it gets only about 850 visits a month. And those visitors stay only an average of 7 measly seconds, with an astronomically high “bounce” rate of 97%.

What is the difference. Why more actual and prolonged visits from a keyword with 15,000 monthly searches than from a keyword with 232,000 searches? The answer — CONTENT! As the saying goes, “content is king”. On the very effective keyword I have much varied, relevant content. On the unsuccessful one (with 15 times the searches, but fewer visits), my content is minimal and unrelated to the main meaning of the keyword.

All of this to say: make every effort to fill your new website, based on that keyword, with rich and relevant content. You will do very well! Best wishes.

Jim, thank you for your input, it makes perfect sense :) I'm actually going to try to explore other keywords as well. I'm aiming on quality content over quick duplicate or low quality content. Hopefully the SERPs rankings will reflect this.
