Is this URL friendly?

Is something like this search engine friendly?

http://www.somesite.com/index.php?action=category&id=2

Will it get well indexed and ranked? Or does it need some kind of mod rewrite?

 

It will index and rank.

but better is http://www.somesite.com/category/product/

It looks tidier, more logical & ranks better on the whole.

Google gives some info in its webmaster guidelines too.

 

I have urls like:

http://www.somesite.com/index.php?ind=groups&op=groups_show_single&ide=2

That get indexed... so I would think that would work.

Google says something about not accepting the &id variable, so you should change that.

 

mod_rewrite is more user friendly then qurey string url
