Is it normal to have keywords that take 3 months to evaluate? Meaning. I pause any keyword that doesn't make a sale by the time it costs me the price of 1 sale. So if i'm making $20 per sale and the keyword costs me .15 per click, it will take about 133 clicks to determine whether or not this keyword is worth keeping around. However, if the keyword drives only a little traffic, it may take me 3-6 months to get those 133 clicks. Of course, once I know that keyword is profitable, it's an asset in my "keyword inventory". Do you guys find this to be a fairly common scenario in your campaigns? Is this the correct approach for my tracking? I just want to make sure this is normal for a lot of keywords. Thanks, jay
I am kind of new to all this but I would say your on a semi good approach except sometimes it takes a little more than 133 clicks or whatever the amount of the sale vs click ratio is as a good test. But I would say your on the right track. I would like to hear from an experienced user
This is a normal approach and only way to find whether a keyword is worth or not. On some promising keywords, we can even wait for some more clicks. There are many other factors that count including what your ad says and what you have on your landing page.
I always had the idea that a campaign only takes a couple of months to optimize. I didn't know that it's normal for a campaign to take up to a year to optimize. I'm also confused as to how some people are getting hundreds of clicks a day off of just one keyword. I do have a couple of keywords that get about 100 clicks a day, but they're broad and don't convert. The point of this thread was just to make sure nothing is "broken" and it really does take this long (up to 6 months) to optimize for many keywords. Anyone else want to chime in? I'd love to hear more responses. -Jay
The approach is typical, but it also leads to frustration and most quit long before they find out whether the keyword is good or not. Instead of that, why not find keywords that have traffic and target them? That's how you get hundreds of clicks per day on keywords. Sometimes taking what google gives you is a good starting point.
