    Hi to all!!!!

I am planning to start a website of mine very soon. I am planning to make it a general kind of and I also intend to add various quality articles for the site. Other than promoting the site in total, I will like to promote the pages. I am planning to add quality articles related to popular topics like finance, law, health etc.

I have heard a lot of times that the websites should be niche specific. But, I am thinking about a website with good content based on various niches. So, is it a right strategy to start things off? Hoping to hear from the SEO experts.

NB: Please move this thread to the appropriate location if I have made a wrong post.

The problem that you are most likely to face is with the niche. Building a site around a general niche will make it difficult for SEO. Unless you'll have people working under you and providing you with quality articles on a daily basis, it is going to be very difficult to manage alone.
Rather, you can build a website around a single niche and promote it. Its your choice, iff you feel you can manage it you should go ahead. Remember, when you cant manage SEO if your site is too big, long tail keywords are he key. :)

As mentioned before, the niche is too wide. Remember - in IM it's better to be a big fish in a small pond than lose yourself in a big pond with all the other small fishes ;)

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I would say find one niche and work on ranking for that. In doing so you will learn all about getting rank, SEO, and other techniques. Then maybe someday you could tackle the multi-niche site. But for a beginner i would not sugest this, it will be demoralizing! Best of luck to you!
