hello, someone made me a site and charged $700. is it worth that much? http://tunerplaza.onlinecommunitysite.com
I like that site. Could be worth that much all depends. You have to look at certain things. Most people that i've talk to would of charge more on that though. You just have to look at if they charged you per hour, developing the site itself, custom made script etc. All those factors. Nonetheless, looks good though.
Ditto.. if it's a custom job.. the scripting and everything then yes, if it's just a template, open-source or something like this... then nope, $700 is too much. But then again, it also depends on location... prices vary.
Its all about traffic, and without statistics its hard to say. It has a PR0, its on a weird subdomain, and doesn't look that active. I would say no way is it worth $700, but that's just me.
I think even if its open-source, whoever customized it and changed it and re-designed it has to put all his/her experience and knowledge which is learnt over years. The site looks good, it allows users to login and has an admin panel. I would say a dynamic, CMS driven website is worth more than $700.
DOn't get me wrong.. I mean if somebody uses a script like OS Commerce and puts some content on it, then well.. it's 15-20 minutes of work...
I wouldn't say its 15-20 minutes of work to fully customize a cms like that, but its definatly not $700 dollars worth of work either.
well i have had at custom coded by a professional programmer. just makein sure im not getting ripped off!
oh its not really open to the public right now. im just askin about basic price for the coding. it will be on tunerplaza.com - he just has it on a subdomain for uploaidng and so-on
Looks like a lot of time was put into it, I wouldn't say he is ripping you off. You may want to have him check out what happens when a proper ID is not entered into the view_car_profile field, I'm not an expert but there may be some risk of sql injection there.
Yes, I also think its too much for the design, the people who designed it should have put some effort on improving the quality of the images. For example the car on the front page looks very pixelated. Keep up the good work
Not being happy with design is easily fixable. I've paid for coding before, and if that's custom coding then I say it's worth the money. I agree though, that it's not the prettiest site. However, just adding a CSS sheet and playing around with your color scheme would improve things. Ask about doing some image manipulation in your CSS (ie adding a shadow or the like). Part of the reason the images look bad are that they are square, fixed, and they actual car shots are squished to force the square. Did you choose the fixed square setting for a reason? If not, just changing that might help. With a white background site, I always like to see white background images w/no border. You don't have to worry about uniformity so much if you don't use a border.
all also depends on backend features. This site worth $700 to develop and it's a fact. No, in any case you can probably find somebody, who can do it for $100 - but in result you will get sux thing, and will pay more then $700 for professional developer to redesign and redevelop it. As fact you also will lose time
I agree intoex. There are plenty of cheap programmers. Some are students or people willing to do it for cheap to build their biz. They could be good or bad. And then there are those who don't do good work because they know you won't discover it until they are long gone. Also, if you deal with cheaper coders, you have to spec it out to the ninth detail. A programmer that lets you tell them an idea and goes with it has to put in more effort and thinks through the process (saving you the time). This time is worth money too.
