i'm confused. this site has a pagerank 8 http://opensource.planetjava.org/ but it seems to just be a copy of http://www.opensource.org/. is this real or can they steal pagerank somehow?
It’s already a highly ranked site that has mirrored the content under an open source license; look at its footer for the other sites that have done the same. A site can’t steal PR.
If you look down at the bottom of the page on opensource.planetjava.org it says that it is a mirror site. So while they may get flagged in Google as having duplicate content, if the site is popular enough to need a mirror, they may not be particularly worried about page rank anyway. Also notice that the mirrors are all listed on the main page of opensource.org.
May be a fake pagerank set up to sell links. They copy the content and use cloaking to 301 search engines to the original site. This way Google will give them the same PR of the original site (until the next update). The user sees there local copy where they can place links they sell. Use a fake pagerank checker. EDIT: I checked the site and their PR seems to be o.k. !
Oh yeah I agree but look at the domains that have the same content, I highly doubt that site like planetjava.org is faking - I am sure you'll agree
