Hey, I am thinking about setting something up like this: http://www.livetv.ws Is this website legal? Can they get sued? (FYI, I know the owner and nothing is hosted on the site, and a disclaimer is there, as is a removal email) Thanks
Can you elaborate please? How do you know this? Anyone know anything about this I'm getting mixed insight, can someone clear this up?
I cannot open the site to look around, but from what I could see I would say no. It is possible that the site is legal, but that would only be if the site had arranged re-broadcast rights with all of the stations (even then there might be some cases where this would not apply - such as syndicated shows). While it is possible, I find it highly unlikely. Those rights would be very pricey. More, I think, than could be expected to be returned by ads or even memberships. I could not see what country the site was hosted in as the whois data did not include that. However, the parent site is a registered business in Canada. Even if the site is hosted in a country with lax copyright laws, that does not mean that the site is legal.
First I've heard of that - sounds interesting. But, I would have to assume someone will come after them and try to shut them down.
I assume the owner just takes live feeds available for free from the various networks and channels on their websites and embeds them into this site. I'd question the legality of that. I guess it's basically the same as hotlinking to a picture on somebody else's site, which I realize millions of people do, especially on places like MySpace, but that doesn't make it legal.
