My dad gets a call from this place saying that you have done a fraud on this bank. And you own this bank $8,000 and you will go to jail tomorrow. So we call them back, we say what fraud, and the guy says you tell me. He tells us you can settle it out of court for $1,000. So he just hang up on them. It has been 6 days so far, was that a scam or real. The thing is that place was a real collection agency. But we have checked our credit report and we don't own any one any money.
It's a scam. Think about it, Is a bank really going to phone someone up who they suspect has commited fraud and ask for thier money back?
And do you really think they would settle with just $1 000 if you really owned them $8 000? That's a $7 000 loss. Have you tried calling the cops?
Sounds like a scam to me. No bank would settle for 1/8th of what someone owed them - they'd all be out of business if they did! Just tell them you're prepared to go to jail and are waiting for the cops - that should take the wind from their sails!
heh i agree. Scam... I think you should tell them that you have recorded their call, and announced the authorities... that's going to cool them off
If they are threatening you with jail for payment of a debt they are extorting you and this is a crime in California.
I believe it is a scam..also, it is possible someone spoofed their number on your caller ID. It allows a person to make any number they want show up on the other line's caller ID.
it was a scam. no self respecting banker is gonna take that kind of loss. if they call again, set up a meet to pay them, with a Louisville Slugger
yes, definitely a scam. even if you DID owe a bank $8000, they would send you collection letters LONG before making a phone call like that!
