I came across something yesterday, while I was doing some research. (Book #59, Hadith #597) A lady committed theft during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle in the Ghazwa of Al-Fath, ((i.e. Conquest of Mecca). Her folk went to Usama bin Zaid to intercede for her (with the Prophet). When Usama interceded for her with Allah's Apostle, the color of the face of Allah's Apostle changed and he said, "Do you intercede with me in a matter involving one of the legal punishments prescribed by Allah?" Usama said, "O Allah's Apostle! Ask Allah's Forgiveness for me." So in the afternoon, Allah's Apostle got up and addressed the people. He praised Allah as He deserved and then said, "Amma ba'du ! The nations prior to you were destroyed because if a noble amongst them stole, they used to excuse him, and if a poor person amongst them stole, they would apply (Allah's) Legal Punishment to him. By Him in Whose Hand muhammad's soul is, if Fatima, the daughter of muhammad stole, I would cut her hand." Then Allah's Apostle gave his order in the case of that woman and her hand was cut off. Afterwards her repentance proved sincere and she got married. 'aisha said, "That lady used to visit me and I used to convey her demands to Allah's Apostle. What do you think?
Without knowing more, I think a "don't do it again" might have sufficed. I stole so much candy as a kid that I'd have no appendages left, and I think I've turned out O.K.
Geez, the worst punishment I ever got was spanked. And I remember thinking that was just like the end of the world. I come from a large family and sometimes there would be up to 3 kids lined up to get there spanking. Cutting off someones hand for stealing is disgusting though, I don't think anyone should be able to do that ever.
No its punishment from Moohammad.... I aslo think Muhammad/Islam got ideas from monkeys. Consider the following Hadith. Quote: Volume 5, Book 58, Number 188: Narrated 'Amr bin Maimun: During the pre-lslamic period of ignorance I saw a she-monkey surrounded by a number of monkeys. They were all stoning it, because it had committed illegal sexual intercourse. I too, stoned it along with them. This must be where this comes from
Fryman, I just want to do some further research on it before coming to any additional conclusions, but thanks for your concern
I believe in Love and forgiveness. If you don't forgive others how would you expect others to forgive you? How would you expect God to forgive you if you believe in God? I am not talking about major crimes. (That picture "islam" is really gruesome though. I don't even want to look at it anymore.)
Rebecca, I'm not sure Fryman's comment was directed to you. In fact, I'm not sure whose comment Fryman was directed to, as I didn't see anyone defending anything on the thread.
