I have Verzion FiOS and want to extend the usage area. What I mean.. The Verizon supplied router allows four RJE 45 hookups and is also wireless, is in one part of the house. I want to add another wireless router that will get its linkup from the Verizon router and also allow me to use rje 45 network cables to connect to other devices-- [phones and computers]. For example, I have a non-wireless skype phone that I want to use anywhere in the house without laying network cable. I am hoping I can extend the Verizon router using the wireless feature and then hook up the skype phone with a cable to a new linked router. Does this make sense?
I am fairly certain you can use access points for this. Normally an access point works by plugging into the wall and making a wireless signal, but I have used one the other direction. Skype might not like it, but I have used a router, to an access point upstairs, running to an access point downstairs that plugged into my xbox so i could stream media through my house.
a wireless bridge is what you may need. my brother uses another router in bridge mode, but he said he's not sure any router can do that.
Found a solution. Set up my wireless enabled windows xp netbook with rj45 connection as a gateway/router for my skype internet phone. Simply a matter of tweaking settings until the right combination was found. Q...
