Is This Possible? Connect Laptop to Internet through USB to desktop?

I'm guessing this is the proper section for the question, sorry if it isn't.

I'm wondering if it's possible to connect my desktop (direct plug-in to black box) to my laptop, via USB, and get a wired Internet connection on my laptop?

I know I can obviously just plug the laptop directly into the black box, but without a router I can't have Internet on both computers at the same time, which is inconvenient.

    Thanks

You can also just buy a wireless router to set up a wireless network in the whole house. Just about any laptop has Wifi embedded.
That is the best way to have access on both computers without having to have them connected to each other.

although its possible using a special USB cable as mentioned by Kranial, its cheaper and effective to buy a router / switch.

Its easier to connect a laptop to the internet/desktop wirelessly via an ADSL wireless router.

Yes, it is possible but you need to get wireless modem. Then you can connect your desktop to th modem and set the wireless, and your laptop can connect through wireless

you can do this easily with a 'crossover cable'

you just plug it into both computers and need not make any other configuration. you must make sure that it is a crossover cable as the data needs to go both ways.
