If I copy an article from a free Article Directory to get content for my website or re-write an article in my own words, do you think it is plagiarism?

Looking forward to your kind replies.

    Thanks

It's not plagiarism if you rewrite it in your own words. Happens all the time in almost all walks of the literary world.

I don't think it will be a plagiarism if you add a link to original article source. If you rewrite the same article in your own words, it should be OK too. However, some people change very few words and say "this is my article". So make sure you are not this type of persons

plagiarism is a kind of imitating others work and claiming to be yours. As for example, you just copy an article for your website content and claim that it is done by you.

Well if you copied with editing that would be potentially be "copyright infringement".

If you copied and edited that would be potentially be a derivative works and still a potential "copyright infringement"... if you used a bibliography with citations to the original works that might be ok... but you really need permission from the originating author.

...if you had your own creative inspiration... then there is no plagiarism or copyright issues.

What i would suggest doing is writing opinion pieces on articles that you like, and link to those articles. That way, you can quote a great deal of it, and you are writing your own words, so it turns into fair use. (I wouldent attempt that in an english exam though ;) )

Plagiarism is the "use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work.

Plagiarism is appropriation of the work, ideas, or words of another without proper acknowledgment.

I also agreed with what Hosting24 said...

I agree with redleespice... if you copy an article word for word and don't acknowledge the original author, then yes that is plagiarism...
