Is this normal?

Once you've agreed to a link exchange, and you have provided the link, verified the other party has done the same, then several weeks later, the link disappears off the site you've traded with? Makes me sceptical about people's intentions, and they still come here and freely ask for link exchanges.

What do you think of a thread where everyone can post a nickname of a person who removes links without notification? So all of us will be warned about the trickster. On the other hand, the person will have an opportunity to explain the reason of his/her actions and acquit him\herself in this thread.

I have contacted the people asking why the link is removed.

I am hoping that it is an oversight, their pages have had updates in the last little while.

I will post back in this thread shortly.

This has happened to me on numerous occasions and I am quite ready to supply names !

All I can say is be very attentive to your links, who with, where they are etc.etc.
The most difficult to track down are three way links.
Now I keep strict records of who exchanges links with me and check them on a regular basis.
Also keep your PM's, you can download them as text file for future reference.
You would be surprised how many people say they never contacted you, PM's are proof.

Some people work in groups and you can get several requests for their website from different people.

It really sucks if people deliberately remove your links.

A good example are my proxies (Most are PR4 ) I have submitted to as many as 40 Directories and topsites (They usually ask for reciprocal or will not list you ), checking them a while ago only about ten of those Directories/Topsites have listed my sites.

All this time they have had 30 to 40 PR4 sites of mine pointing my one way link to them.

Of course now I have removed them.

Most Link exchangers are really great traders but for the few who deceive you I think should be named along with their website.

Don't waste your time... There is no point in argumentation if someone intentionally remove your link. Some times my links were restored on sites but I found them removed after a week or a month.

My advise: do not have a deal with unfair webmasters.

So we can create a list of "Black webmasters" and send it to each other. If you are interested PM me and I'll send you the list with explanation why I consider a webmaster as a trickster.

This is extremely unethical on the part of the person with whom you traded the link.
It's good that you have already contacted them asking them why your link has been
removed, if you do not hear back from them in a timely manner, you should remove
    their link.

When you have traded links with someone you have to check their site on a regular basis
to make sure that your link is still there, the more links you have traded the more difficult
and time consuming this process becomes. You should focus on building one way links.

    I agree.

It is extremely difficult to track, especially when you're dealing with many people from many different sites.

This is only one of about 5 forums that I visit like this. It's difficult to track down the users and to get a clear answer.

I did get clarification from one person, and the link was placed on a different site / page ... I was a little confused as to what actually transpired, but I'm happy. It's on a solid PR3 page.

I have removed the offending links off my website until I receive a message back. I don't think I will hear back though.

That's happened to me many times. I don't even attempt link exchanges anymore, unless I know the person. I have been burned too many times.

I agree, call them out publicly in their thread and see what response they give. If they ignore you, then at least you've made others aware of the situation.

I agree also.... tell everyone else who they are so that they don't just do it repeatedly.
