I'm a newbie and I bought an adsense website from ebay 2 months ago to see if I can help out with the family expenses, not expecting much, maybe a minimum of even $1 a day. Hoping so much it may bring in what others are bringing in. Well, it's been two months, all I got was 3 clicks, a 5cents one, a 59cents one, and a 7 cents one. THAT'S all. I've been submitting the site to search engines every other day. Posted 1 forum. I don't know how long it takes for a site to get "detected", but what I want to know, is... what is the normal rate of CTR in the first couple of months of a site? Also, how long before I even get a bare minimum of $1 a day? So far, my CTR is 1.5% IS this NORMAL?

Depends on what niche your website is in and other factors. How many unique visitors do you get a day?

if you know you are not expecting much, you are going to fail....
think about it, those adsense had been sold to like 100+ ppl, which mean there is 100 duplicate copy of the same site...google will not index your's
and you cannot submit your site every other day..it is same as asking google not to include me.
For two month you only have around 300 impression? That is way too low....
if you are serious about adsense, hang out more in this forum and write some unique content. I start from 50 cent a day and average 15 buck everyday in two month

IMHO 1.5% CTR is normal for many sites.

BTW: Your not supposed to mentioned your sites CTR as it is against the TOS.

If your getting some traffic you proably already are indexed in at least some search engines.

My advice, analyze your logs and see where your traffic is coming from and for what keywords, find other words that match your subject but you are ranking low on and try to get better rank.

And of course, find new links to your site ever day or ever week depending on your commitment level.

I think despite the fact that the website is not working out for you, I'm glad that you went and bought it anyway.
I believe that experience would have give you some lessons, e.g. working with web hosts, setting up the website, inserting the adsense codes, etc etc..
And I think the most important lesson is still the one on promoting your website :)
You had a few hard knocks but I'm sure you are learning.
You should have around 100 uniques a day to see an average of $1 a day. So start asking yourself how you can get 100 uniques a day.
Here's an article that I wrote. Hope it helps.

Take a look around this forum to start with. Everything you need to build adsense sites and build traffic to those sites is right here.

Start building some unique content for your website so that it is growing in quality content and giving the se's more of what they are after.

And start submitting some articles and you will be well on your way to learning what you need to do to succeed in not just adsense sites but also SEO.

What's the site niche/topic? Give us a URL so we can see if there's something wrong with this instanta-site of yours. If you don't tell us anything about your site, it's blind guessing on our part. P.S. Don't be scared, we won't steal your $1/month site. :)

If she's only gotten 3 clicks, and her CTR is 1.5%, that means she's only received 200 impressions in 2 months, which is terribly low (my site is still small and I average 3 times that per day).

So the first thing I'd look into, regardless of what your site's about, is generating more traffic, which today goes far beyond merely submitting your site to search engines. You've got to give people a reason to visit your site and keep them returning.

Maybe once you provide your URL we can give you specific ideas on how to do that.

A similar thing happened to me 3 months back. I bought 40 ready for adsense site content, all good keywords, for 40$ and to host that, I got around 20 .info domains + 2 months resellers hosting :D

The thing that caught my attention was "Make 2.25$ per day from each site and ull have 100$ per day!" wow I said, amazing!! quickly spent around a 100$ and then sat back dreaming of how I HAVE made it...lol. I did nothing, no submissions to directory, no link exchanges, nothing. I just dint know what to do. I was a complete dumbo newbie back then :D:D Even now I am, but I think Ive learnt a lot from this forum and a few others :)

Then I built a few sites, small, but not-so-unique, they collectively bring around 50 visitors per day, 200+ impressions on adsense and 0-7 clicks, I make anything from $0.03 to $1.50 per day.

I also want to become a member of one-dollar-a-day club, im trying hard, and hopefully I will do it very soon.

For a new website it is usually very hard get good ranking in major search engines other than MSN . So for the first 5 - 6 months you must spend money to drive visitors to your site. Just participate in adwords or similar programs to get more visitors.

In the meantime you can continue building your site (adding content, link exchanges, directory submissions, etc). That will also bring some decent tarrific. Don't expect hell of money from a new site unless you have enough cash to spend for advertising ;)

keep in mind if someone is selling their webpage cheap, it most likely wont return much. People arent THAT stupid. If i had a site that made 5 dollars a day id have to get payed at LEAST $2000 to even consider it. i wouldnt be selling it for 20 bucks on ebay. And i know noone else would either.

Lucy, this is not a money making perpetuum mobile. You have make something yourself to make a good income. People wouldn't be that stupid to sell some "get rich quick" automatism if they could just use it themselves many times.

Start learning the basics before you even consider earning anything.

Instead of using this pre-made stuff, why not spend a little time developing a page or site about something that interests you? If you are passionate about something you're bound to make it appealing to others and by that fact generate some traffic. With traffic comes clicks. There is no "magical" formula to use and generate profit...especially using templates from ebay that have been sold to who knows how many others.

    1) Start a site about something that interests you.
    2) Do research on that subject or group of subjects for your site(s).
    3) Create a "links" section and email webmasters of like minded sites, requesting "link exchanges".
    4) Link to your site(s) in your signatures of the forums you visit.

Slowly but surely your hobby can / will generate some additional revenue.

    Best of luck to you.

WOW! Thanks for all your suggestions and responses. I just woke up the next morning..hoping for at least one response...and got this!! The only reason I bought a site is because I don't have any experience in building a site. It looked clean and helpful. I've never heard about adsense and I wondered if it was that easy. I literally jumped for joy seeing the first 5cents I made. But then, started getting dissapointed when it goes dead for days and days.. on and on. The first thing I do every morning is to check my adsense. Nowadays, I don't expect anything, feeling a bit foolish. I will try and increase my traffic and write more content. (as soon as I find out how to add it). I appreciate all your help ! Thanks. Lucy 23 http://www.e-weight-loss.net

hey lucy, all you need is content. the site you have http://www.e-weight-loss.net looks good. Wrtie some good content(copy and paste is a no-no) and you will be fine.
it is not foolish at all, i check my adsesne every two hours. Even one click made me jump from my seat...i think it is more the accomplishment(some dumb click on my ads) than the money
