Is this normal?

I just started my very first site about a week and a half ago and put adsense on it right away. I have submitted my url to several search engines but haven't been put on any yet. Since then, I have gotten about 4.3k uniques but only made about 6 bucks on adsense. Do you think this will pick up when my site shows up in search engines? Also, Im leaving the country for 2 years soon and have to leave the site under the watch of my younger brother who knows almost nothing about websites or advertising so I wanted to get everything set before I left. What can I be doing to boost traffic and adsense income in the 3 weeks I have left?

Perhaps you're ad placement/integration (position and colors) are wrong. If possible link us to the site and we can give you some tips

It is kind of wierd how you get 4.3k uniques in ten days without SE. I don't know what kind of site it is, it is probably kind of entertainment site. So... get next 4k uniques like the first one. ;)

Its actually only a topsite and I havent spent any money other than hosting costs on it so I hope this thing explodes while im gone and makes me some cash :p I dont think the ad placement is the problem. I have gotten over 100 clicks and still only made that little cash which is what makes me wonder.

A week and a half after a general submission to SE's is nothing. If you haven't done proper SEOing, you'll have to wait months, probably longer, for the SE's to take any active interest in your site.

And dear God, why are you leaving your site with a younger brother who doesn't know about websites? If you've already told him about Adsense, I can practically guarantee you he will sneak onto your site one of these days to click on your ads in order to "help you out" and get you banned.

Haha he isn't that dumb. He is 17 and definately knows better than that. I made a site that is basically self-running, and somewhat self advertising so he is just there to make sure nothing horribly wrong happens. As for the SEO, I have done what I know how to (meta tags, using proper keywords related to my meta tags, created a couple links to other pages) which brings me to another question. Typing in my website name in google brings up about 25 links to myspace profiles. Are these considered back links that will help my page rank and whatnot?

That's the difficult part.... some high PR links which relevant to your site sometimes reject your link exchange when your PR is low.

    4.3K what?

    page impressions or visitors?
and what does your adsense reports tells you of your impressions?

may be you forget to place ad on all or several key pages on your site which is mostly viewed.

I think 4.5 impressions or visit is very impressive for a start. I am only getting 50 views day and average a dollar for adsense.

Maybe you can share with us how you got that amount of traffic. :)

I said it was 4.3k unique visitors for the last week and a half. I have 4 ads on each of my key pages so thats not the problem either. I don't understand why I am getting so little money though. My clicks average anywhere from $.01-.05 which seems really low.

I run a myspace website so I just advertised on myspace (I love free advertising). By "advertised" I mean, I mainly made a profile directing people to my site then use friend adding programs and posted a couple comments on large band profiles and the sort.

So far nobody has answered my question of whether or not links on myspace profiles are considered "backlinks" and will they help my PR or not? Thanks for your comments though, they are helpful. :)

Links from myspace will not be considered as backlink in my opinion untill unless the number of links from my space to your site is in large amount say in thousands.

secondly, you can put maximum of 3 ad units (4 is possible if you are using 1 link unit).

third, please mention the impressions reported in your adsense report.

1-5 cents /click on a myspace related site is pretty much what you should be expecting
Just make sure you teach your brother to advertise the site so people keep coming
