is this normal with google indexing after a year online

    Hi

I noticed something odd happening and not sure if this is normal or if I should be concerned.

My pages in a small site that I have were all indexed well over a year ago. Then recently I was checking

    site:domainname.com

and each day for the last week, I saw one page at a time drop off.

So on my end, I added another site to the same domain BUT the two sites are not connected in any way. They are not linked together either.

I linked the new site from another relevant site so that it would get indexed and it did. BUT that is when the other pages started to drop off.

I have done this with other sites - meaning I used the same domain to host two different sites but they are not connected, they are separate topics with separate entities and all pages for both are indexed.

Is this a temporary thing? How do I get those pages indexed again? Is this normal?

    thx for any insight

I'm not totally sure what's happening to your entries in the results pages ... try looking at all those pages' back links and see if you are getting any links from bad neighborhoods, and in the mean time, throw up some quality back links to those pages specifically that are falling out.

I did what you said to get some backlinks and I don't know if the situation is temporary or not BUT just now I checked and the pages are coming back. It was cached again yesterday so maybe those backlinks helped for it to see that the pages are live.

Thx alot for the suggestion - hopefully they will stay this time

    Assuming you've done nothing wrong-

It very much depends on spidering frequency.

Sounds like you site hasn't been indexed for sometime so pages are dropping from the index.

When it finally gets spidered they come back.

If you see this happening it suggests the spiders can't easily access your entire site, most likely due to not enough incoming links, basically the spiders aren't regularly stumbling on your site through links.

If you find deep sections of a site not being indexed add more links so they are easier to get to from the home page.

I think you are right about that because I did notice that two pages that had not been dropped yet had not been spidered in over 6 weeks which I thought was odd.

So I guess I have learned a valuable lesson with this exercise. thank you

I've had this happen a couple times. The situation always seemed to resolve itself in a few days. I always figured it was due to some internal dancing Google was doing or maybe I was getting info from some out of date datacenter. Whenever it happens to me, I always resubmit my sitemap...not sure if it does anything, but it makes me feel better :)

I don't think its anything to worry about, though its always good to have some fresh backlinks coming through. Definitely helps me feel more comfortable about my stance in google!
