is this how the whole adwords process works? i have been studying for aabout a week now, i never used it before and i think i understand how it all works now. can someone tell me if im right?

basically you make an ad group with your keywords. Then you let that ad group run for a day. Then at the end of the day you check your top performing keywords and ad variations. pause all your bad performing keywords and pause your bad performign ads. so now all thats left active are your keywords that you have received clicks on and the ones that are the best performing from the day, and your top performing ad. Then let it run for the next day. Since i now have only the best performing keywords and the ad with the highest CTR, this will raise my ad groups overall CTR and since the ctr is raised, my QUALITY SCORE will be raised from OK to GREAT. now i have great quality scores so that will cause my mimum bid to be lower, and since that is lower my ads will be placed at a substanitally higher position on the first page for me keywords.

is this how the whole process works?

hm...i let ads run longer than a day...a week or two and then look at impressions and delete. Also..whether QS is great or not decides usually instantly.

It's a bit more complicated than that, but this isn't a bad method - as GeorgR suggests, you should wait until you're sure that a keyword works or not.

One problem with this approach is that if you've got a lot of keywords, and not much money, it can take a long time to get rid of the rubbish.

An alternative approach might be to set up a handful of Adgroups with a single broad-match term in. Every day or two, look at a search query report (which tells you what terms people searched for, whether they clicked on your site and whether they converted), and add the good terms into the Adgroup on exact match, and the bad terms on negative match. Over time, a smaller and smaller percentage of your spend will be on the broad-match term, and eventually you can get rid of it.

But I believe that the 'throw everything in and see what works' approach is more common.

I have also just started google adword a week ago. it seems that it is going well so far. I had disabled some of the keywords after their bad results from the first day. But due to a suggestion given by my friend, I again put those keyword back. You know what, I got better clicks in some of that keywords on the following days. So, my point is, it is better to see the result of the keywords for at least a week.

    Hi there,

I would go back a few steps first and suggest you spend a LOT of care researching your niche before even starting a campaign.

The same with your keywords. Research them very thoroughly.

One of the main reasons for poor results in AdWords and in PPC advertising overall, is insufficient research into the niche and the keywords.

If you get the niche and keywords wrong, it makes it very hard to be successful.

    cheers,

    Anthony
