Uncoverthenet is not using google's search API, I had a doubt. I feel they are using meta search scripts that fetch results from different search engines. It may be their custom one too. How ever they have kept the results display from web similar to google, but all other search is different. It shows results in different format. To prove try using a site name which is not in google's index or banned from Google, you will know. it also seems to me they have some old dump database from where they are pulling contents. I tested with a site which is deindexed in google, metatags changed 8 months ago, and it shows those old metatags, which no other SE shows. However the the site is not appearing in Google and this shows about 80 pages of them. Its a kinda mix and match thing, which sites like querryserver use to do long time ago
Hi sipltech, I see you have a great understanding regarding to search engines, thanks for your findings and I learned a lot from you
Yeah lol I have a clone that does the same thing, but I dont use it, its powerered directly from google, you need to have your own license key from google to use it, so its not like its illegal or anything.
The results are from Yahoo. They were a large site so they have an agreement. It is like Adsense for Search.
that's what i was thinking. i wanted to do something with the api also, but it makes no sense to me!! $39 is not bad though, although its more than i wanna pay...
I don't think so. I did 2 searches that are identical, one from uncoverthenet.com and the other one from yahoo. I got two different results.
UncoverTheNet is definitely not a Google clone. All the search results are from the listings within their directory. As you can see, each listing has a category assigned to it. You must submit your site in order to get listed there. Otherwise, an editor will have to find your site manually, and include it in the directory. Not sure where the sponsored listings are coming from.
The search results are from the directory itself which attains it's listings by paid submissions or editor added submissions. Then there are "alternate" results for terms that the directory would not yield a result for. As an example, if you searched for a highly specialized term the directory may not have any results for it. So we would display our alternate results (which are provided by contract from yahoo) to satisfy the searchers query. We feel this is a much better approach than to just not show any results for those queries. Hope this helps.
Uncover The Net is an old ( been around along time ) directory. The search results are coming from this: http://www.google.com/coop/ You can make your own search engine just like it. I have the same thing just not a pretty as thiers.
