Aright guys, im just wondering whats your opinion on http://www.popolicio.us/2007/07/15/is-this-google-adsense-story-true The story behind this blog post. Since im not really a google or banking expert, i cant really figure out the right answer to the question but there are just a few weird things that rang the alarm bells for me, like the guy saying that the bank couldn't tell the lass that Google had insufficient funds in there account + Why the hell would Google of all people have no money + the comment supposeldy by Matt Cutts, why is it 4th? Possibly its a fake comment and she just wrote that to get a good story and get on the front page of digg or something? I dont know, whats your views buddys? Jason
No sources from Matt Cutts from what i can find, i read his blog daily like most of us on this forum do. I dont know i mean, since this story has been very well promoted via social bookmarking sites and has caused abit of a stir, nothing official has been said. (Apart from the comment)
She said Google's phone number was on the check, its not on Shoemoney's photo. I don't receive payment by check so I've no idea if that's true or not.
the checks dont have the number on them, i have one right infront of me now. although on the letter that is attached there is this number: 14240-4037 but i dont know if this is googles number or what. Just some random code maybe attached in between all the other crap that the letter contained.
maybe they have more than 1 accounts to handle adsense payments? dun know, but looks like fake story or some misunderstanding
It's hard to say with only one side of it. Google probably has multiple bank accounts, perhaps they removed money from one of them and that check was specifically for that bank account and hence to why it bounced. But.. who knows.
I think something sounds off about the story. There are two possible things that happened: 1) You can't just walk into any bank an ask to cash a check. You have to have it backed up with funds for your own account. I think there was a misunderstanding. I think she didn't have enough funds in her account, so she couldn't cash it. The teller was trying to tell her it was her account that didn't have the money and she thought it was Google's account that didn't have the money. 2) Google's checks are "for deposit only". I don't understand how this works, but This page says: "Please note that Google AdSense checks are for deposit only, and are not able to be cashed."
Thats the zipcode for Buffalo, NY where the check was processed or sent from. If you cant see a telephone number then that story is BS.
Probably is true, just maybe some sort of banking error/database error. Should tell the woman to contact Google/try cashing it again later.
