Everybody knows the Million Dollar Homepage. Knock-offs sprouted viciously as people tried to get in the action. They failed, including Tew's second try. I recently StumbledUpon the Million Dollar Wiki which has a new take and a chance to work. I am biased because I bought into it and got a few pages. But, I came here to see what YOU think the outcome is going to be. Will the Wiki be successful?
Eh, I'm not sure. From a webmaster point of view, it will give you a whole wiki page for yourself, with linkback to your site. But from a visitor point of view... I personally would have no reason to visit the site. I won't necessarily find what I'm looking for, I'll find what someone has paid for.
The whole thing looks like it was designed by a 10 year old as part of his school project. Apart from that, nice idea! They will certainly make some good money but i doubt its going to be a million.
$26,000 made so far! It's probably made more than 99.9% of da internet sites have that try to make a penny off AdSense!!! Though I don't think it'll get close to $1,000,000!!!!
Yep not bad for two months, right? Tokio - you do have a point. The site might get some advertising propaganda. But at least the main page leads you to some good pages. Here are just a few I found interesting or useful: an iPhone joke a site that connects bloggers to advertisers directly something for the guys People find creative ways to attract visitors and make money. Using social bookmark sites, they can generate decent traffic with little effort.
It's got PR0 so far, and you'd have to be lucky to get a PR page for yourself, theres no history on the webmaster, so you can't know if hes dedicated on raising 10's of thousands of backlinks for it. Visitors point of view, I went there to check it out, nonetheless not to browse info. Why not just get a free page in Wikipedia that is a high authority site instead?
Everyone would love a page on Wikipedia, but they delete promotional spots for websites because it is spam. You also can't get the word associated with your niche or specialty - which is what Million Dollar Wiki is about. If your website is about HTML, try getting the HTML page on wikipedia. If you snag it on MDW, provide a few tutorials, tips, templates, roll adsense and sell affiliate products. If some people find your page useful they are likely to dig deeper and follow a link to your official site. You just got some targeted traffic.
the down side is that graham's site has to follow in alex's footsteps, but he also gains active users with every new sale. i think he has a chance.
...in other words, the average person isn't turning to wikipedia for exposure. MDW doesn't directly compete with wikipedia.
Awful design but not a bad idea. Would need some serious promotion and a high profile before I'd consider buying in at $100 for a PR0 / N/A page. ...reach $1,000,000 -- don't think so!
It made a little progress, over 450 pages sold now. Under 25K on Alexa. Wonder if it will get a PR with the upcoming update by Google.
I think this site will do well. I'm sure it is getting a ton of backlinks each day and will do fine when it gets some PR. Wikipedia uses no follow on their links...
