    Good question but I think it seems ok. Nothing deceptive or untowards going on and the ad box is well defined. Clever use of ad placement, imho.

    I would assume Google allows it as FT is a huge site and wouldn't risk breaking the TOS. That ad format sucks for the user, but must have an awesome clickthrough rate! Wow!

    Yeah is interesting.. could see why people might get annoyed by it.. curious as to what kind of click rate it gets though... seems like it might be more effective than lass subtle methods.

    I've found the best ad placement for a forum is in the archive. I have ads after the first post but wouldn't do it like FT did and piss off my users. They originally had it in the first post but moved it to the 3rd?

    Way too intrusive. But I guess when you're a big site (judging by comments here) you can basically force your members to accept anything.
