I changed the ad placement around on my gaming website because for some reason, the earnings seemed to have gone right down in the space of a week and a half, and the CPC was like £0.06 even though there was a ctr of over %1.5 on average. Before it would take me around 4,5,6,7k visits to reach that figure. Anyway, this is the first time I've reached to 2k visitors and I've made $7 with 24 clicks. Surely this is good for a gaming site, I'm only really concentrating on one keyword and 95 percent of the traffic comes from that keyword and the cpc for that keyword is relatively low... What I did was move the sidebar ad, from the top right on the sidebar, to the middle section on the page (user has to scroll down a bit to see the other ad on the sidebar. I have a 728x90 in the header, under navigation bar, and I have a 336x280 in the first article, (you can see this ad, as soon as you hit the homepage) So what do people think for a gaming (news) site, good earnings or what?
Always have a ad placement is the right place which is more likely click-able by visitors to maximize your revenue.
It's not too bad. Like stated, people visiting game sites want to play games and not really click Adsense ads unless they're extremely relevant. Keep testing different ad placements. And remember there's other ways to monetize than Adsense.
