Is this domain name okay? What do you think?

    Hi all-

I have been working on preperations for a new adsense website that will be on ebay specifically on ebay powersellers. So I went to register a domain and found that www.ebaypowersellerpro.com is open. I liked the name thought it was pretty catchy and easy to remeber. Sure it is three words but still I liked it a good deal. So went ahead and registered teh baby for two years and so on.

Then the next day after a long day of work while I was driving home it hit me that the site domain might be a potential copyright issue for ebay. I really do not know copyright law at all but thgoutht he use of the trade marked name ebay migth be a problem.

The site is not really taking anything aways from ebay on the contrary it will help their business by brning in new people who want to become powersellers. However I know copanies can be pretty sticky about this type of thing. I thought well,. I can just go ahead and use it until I get a Cease adn Desist order from someone and go from there. Then after thinking about it deeper that would be a big waste of my time if I had to give it up.

So what do you all think? Problem or not?

    Thanks
    Ichibanda

Definetly a problem..... Ebay has been known to be pretty aggressive with this type of thing.... There are alot of sites out there that use the ebay name, but I would not plan on putting too much time, effort, or money into something that can be potentially taken away from you with little effort.......

eBay will nail you. They are aggressive in protecting their trademark and watch domain registrations very carefully for infringements.

In a case like this would it be a bad thing to put minial effort into it, or dump it altogether?

Should he wait for a C/D or could a company(ebay) come right out and sue him? I'm asking becasue I am in a similar situation with one of my domains.

    Yes, just forget about it.

I learned this the hard way (not ebay though), now I avoid anything that could be trademarked.

but I see the domain names states here are sort of in competition or try to make eBay bad in some kind of way, for example...:

eBayScandals is directly bad for them.
eBayStores try to take over their name...

but I think if it was like eBaysAdvice or eBayRules.com and it was a site giving tips how to sell on eBay they would not have had a problem, cause they are bringing new potential users to eBay...

Well, that i just my 2 cents worth..

There's stilll the potential to harm eBay's reputation. Any domain with eBay in it could look like it is endorsed by eBay, and eBay doesn't have the time to deal with that.

For example, if the hypothetical ebayrules.com sent out an email message to its list, someone will likely think it's spam. And seeing the word eBay, they will complain about spam from eBay.

(Look up the court case of Register.com vs Verio for a good example of this if you want to read more)
