Hello, I want to register a domain name for wordpress templates in my nathal language, but I don't know if I can register a domain like wordpress-templates.com without having copyright problems...
the answer is not without prior consent, if you want to play it safe in my non-legal-advise opinion: Word Mark W WORDPRESS Goods and Services IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038. 1. And what about wordpresstemplates.name? 2. And what could happen to me? I live in central america and in my country copyright laws are really weak... I have seen policemen buying pirate movies!
i think nothing will happen to you. There are a lot of sites that offer wordpress themes and templates and there's nothing wrong with that.
You are safe in Central America, people think that US copyright laws apply worldwide. It doesn't. Register it.
A simple Google search will reveal your answer: http://www.google.com.ph/search?hl=tl&q=wordpress+trademark&meta= It was quite an issue about 2 years ago: http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2006/10/26/using-wordpress-in-your-domain-name-dont/ http://www.bloggingpro.com/archives...-is-a-registered-trademark-of-automattic-inc/ And of course, the WordPress people answered your question: http://wordpress.org/about/domains/ Now, you can register the domain name bearing WordPress. What you can't do is put hints of commercial use, including ads. The WordPress people could make it an issue, and they're fully aware what is likely to happen. Then again, I guess many people don't understand, more so care, how and why trademarks exist, even though it can benefit everyone. As some of the posters said, just ask the WordPress folks about it. But from that link I posted above, it might be more beneficial to use "wp" instead. Some of you folks might think that's unfair, but none of us get to always have our way. If you insist, be ready to be held accountable for your actions. Unless it's something you can afford to lose...
First of all it's trademark issue not a copyright issue and second of all being in Central America won't help you much.
Thank you for your answer. But anyway, wordpress says and This means that I can use, for example, wordpress.templates.com lol
