Is this domain considered old by Google?

I have a domain name that was first registered in 1998 and that I acquired in 2001. The domain has never been used and I would like to do it now.

I would like to use it because I need a domain with good aging from Google's perspective. Is it going to be considered like a new domain or a 6 or 9 year old domain name?

    Any ideas?

What does it say in the WHOIS records?

I don't know for sure but I would think that counts.

It is just my opinion, but the actual length of the registration does not matter much. More important is how long did content with specific keywords exist on the site and how old are the links.

One of the important factors is how long, or if in has been inxded in SEs for a long time

IMHO keywords and content counts when it comes to domain aging. When you change the content entirely it counts as a new domain. You might get indexed a bit faster but that's just an assumption. Good Luck.

Let me ask you a question. You are Google... Now how would putting great value into a domain that was registered in 1998 help improve the relevancy of a search engine? It would actually be the direct opposite. I could buy up a old domain and immediately get top rankings. Old domains are worthless without the site. Google places value on sites that have been around for years. Each day that ticks by puts extra value into that site so if you want to buy a old site it may be worth looking into but old domains are worthless unless they had a site on them.

I am not sure about this. People report that they managed to keep the paerank of domain. (Pagerank is an important factor for Google although it does not mean age is kept or sth like that.)

Important factors to achieve this are listed as having frequently updated content and getting googlebot to the site frequently.

I dont have any real experiments yet..

Well I do. Even one time sites which were closed down may lose their value and be considered new domains and sites that change content can as well. However a domain which never had anything hosted on it or at least not for a while does not have any value. Google does not update the PR toolbar daily.;)

I am in the same situation right now and let me tell you - the Google love is insane. Exact same situation - regged in 1998, dropped, and picked up again (only in 2002) and now I set up a site a month ago - already 50,000 uniques from Google in January

Wow, very good result.. What does this mean? Shoud i wait 5 years (2002->2007) before installing a new site on an old site?

By the way, could you PM me the url of the site or at least tell me what type of site did you install on it and what were the important actions you have made.
