Working on adwords and trying to understand better So here is what I think... So I make a list of words or phrases Example word; Nike Google keyword tools state there are 37,200,000 global searches per month for this term. I know not all of these are local here in my town however if someone would search for nike in my town how would I get the business? Nike as a global term is the key component right? So, if I add phrases like "nike houston tx" "houston nike" would I get results from that even if the only search for nike from houston? Meaning that the search did not include "houston tx or "houston" and just nike. Does Google have a system in place to determine where the search is coming from and know if you search only for "nike" in the houston area and I have terms like " nike houston tx and "houston nike" I would get results or do they have to search for the specific phrase?
You need to geo-target your campaign - https://adwords.google.com/support/aw/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=113246 just adding the city you're in to your keywords won't do what you want - if you set your keywords to broad match (n.b. don't set your keywords to broad match), you can end up showing for any US city - set them to phrase or exact and you're relying on the searcher including the city name in their search query.
Thanks for your help however I think I have chosen the wrong section or have worded my my message wrong. It is apparent I need to revise this post or move it. I was making statements only in reference to my site and not ad words Moving on now... Thnaks
google will do anything and everything to spend your money. google is a monster. be really careful. learn slowly. read through a ton of forums. go to the book store and read books on adwords so that you get a handle. your question is really basic, and it shows that your wise, in the sense that you're doing some homework before gifting big g money. and don't spend a cent until you can measure conversions. otherwise you're spending blindly.
