Is this considered "fluent in Java" experience for Google job applications?

    Greetings,

I am looking at job applications for Google and I see a requirement that I should be "fluent" in Java programming. In college 6 years ago, I took a course in Java and aced it. I also used Java sporadically for various projects over the years and learned True Basic (a simpler predecessor to Java) a few years later, which I also aced but no longer use on a regular basis. I do use OOP with PHP all the time though and I'm just naturally good at programming where I can learn any language quickly.

I do not use Java on a daily basis and therefore "forgot" much of it but I know it should be easy to brush up on.

Would this be considered "fluency" in Java?

    Thanks
    Kind regards

Acing a course doesnt really say if it is the level that you can now do a "hello world" type programme or if you can write a multi threaded application to run across a cluster of servers and databases which is optimised for CPU and RAM usage/ minimise leakage.

Have a look at the likes of Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer qualifications and the sort of things they are required to do and honestly see if you would be able to do them. If you can then you probably are fluent, if you can't you probably arent as this is the lowest level qualification as they also do Master and Expert level.

At the end of the day thought, apply for it and the worst they can do is say no.

Thanks for the information. I know that I have a lot to brush up on. There is so much that they just don't teach you in schools.

Best of luck to the OP.

I do accept. Acing comes from experience. I am working in java based application development for past 6 months, but still there are lot more for me to learn. So experience do matters.
