I want to send an email to all the business' in my local town offering them promotional print solutions.

Is this classed as 'spam' eventhough I have a legitmate reason for sending it out?

    Thanks,
    John

The reason might seem legitimate to you but not necessarily to all the people in your list!

    Even if.

There's three conditions for classifying something as spam:

    Is it unsolicited?

    Is it commercial?

    Is it email?

You hit all three on that.

Do you have a local business association of some sort? They usually offer the email list of their members for purchase where those members have opted into being on that list. (Usually as a condition of membership.) May want to look into something like that.

If those people did not opt in to your mailing list then yes it is classified as spam.

These people speak the truth. If you're planning on sending your ads to everybody, then that will be classified as spam to most people.
