Is this bad for ranking

I have had a site that i will just hypothetically call
    site1.com
This domain was not the best matched domain keyword wise for my site but I got a great deal on it and it was almost a 7 year old domain so I made it fit.

    Recently I bought
    site2.com
This domain is perfect for my site genre. Filled with thw 2 major keywords and fits everything perfectly. However it is a new domain.

site1.com is already indexed in google and has a sitemap as well. Plus it is expected to get a 4 or 5 PR at the next update.

I made site2.com point to the same files as site1.com but of course that is just a redirection so none of the files would be indexed on google as site2.com/cat/page.php or anything like that. So I sort of feel as if the keyword rich domain is going to waste.

At the same time I do not want to remove everything from the old domain since it already has links and all out there and etc. Would it hurt my site to submit 2 sitemaps just under both domain names? Would I be punished for duplicate content since the two domains may seem as different sites?

Which domain should I go with?

You would be penalized for duplicate content. Avoid that! I would go with the older domain. You may see posts that would disagree with me. Trust me! Stick with the older domain. 7 year old domain and you expect a PR 4 or 5 on the next update? Depending on your niche you should be able to make some very nice progress in terms of organic visibility.

yes he is right i also wud prefer old domain. Because keyword rich new domain is not helpful as much as aged domain. It becomes helpful with the time. So just go with old domain.

If you still wanna go with new domain then completely do 301 redirect your old domain to new one. It wud take time to index all files at new domain name. I did same thing it took some extra time than it normally does. So if you wanna avoid from google penalize then do 301 redirect your old domain to new one............

But as i told you 7 yrs old domain has 1000 times more value than a keyword reach new domain so think about it.
Finally that's your site and it is ur choice but i wud say go with old domain.....................

Alright I will stick with the old domain. Now next. I have the new one forwarded to the old domain. Will I get penalized or anything if I submit the new domain to directories or anything as well as the old domain?

Use a 301 redirect from site1 to site2. This tells google that your site no longer exists on site1 but it can now be found on site2. All your rankings and everything will then be swapped to site2. You will yeild much better results using the site2 domain if it's better targeted to the content of your site.

Here is how to do it
