I do not want to jump in the middle of this debate - and regret it got to this. I just wanted to say that, in my instance at least, Hans went to the stratosphere above and beyond the call of duty and aided me tremendously - not only in specifics on how to clean up code for W3C validation, but the importance of doing so generally. I am converted to the issue and am working to make my site 100% cleaner in this way.

No reflection on anyone - just wanted to observe that I found Hans to be of tremendous help and quite generous of his time.

It depends what you aim for. I'm aiming for Google. If you follow the discussion closely, you'll notice how stubborn and verbose he was when sticking up to his moot point. It is clear that W3C compliant has nothing to do with Google indexing, and yet he went on and on about it, as if he's a W3C king or something.

I already mentioned that his idea is irrelevant. I already thanked him for the suggestion and told him to lay it off. But he kept on coming with his cynicism and ostentatious jargons. Again, if you follow the topic, you'll notice that there were 2-3 other posters who said that W3C is not important for Google indexing. And since my aim is to get indexed by Google, his point was moot.

I'm sure he has helped you tremendously. I too, especially on HTML forum, has shared my experience with HTML coding. So it's not about somebody has this philantropic history in DP or anything. It just relates to this particular thread.

    Sorry for the long post.

My44 - my post was not a comment on you, though I can understand why you might think it would be. I didn't mean to impute anything to you, I just wanted to thank Hans for some good help, and share with the community my dealings with him.

I am not sure about the W3C/Google ranking. What I got from most is that it certainly wouldn't hurt, and, in fact, may help.

I also think it may be an issue in the future. I'd rather make a clean-code site now, when it is relatively easier to do, than try to revamp in the future should W3C compliance be an imperative.

My reaction to Hans' comments was a different one. Each to their own.

    Best,

    Paul
