On searching the keyword, 'MAKE MONEY ON EBAY' with the caps.

I found a website, it ranks second on page 1. And is titled 'WAYS TO MAKE MONEY ON EBAY'

The website has a PR of 0, but I was suprised it made it to page 1.
So I copied the url and 'linkdomain checked' it on YahooSearch and low and behold I found 91 backlinks. About 81 were from his site but with variations of this on the end of the urls: links.php?a=5609. I clicked on many of them and they were all blank pages with one link to the homepage. Is this fair or is this manipulation of the Search Engine?

Should I copy his standards of what I believe is cheating or continue to write valuable content and upload them to article pages. Because to me it seems he doesn't have to write much good content all he has to do is link back to his page from multiple blank pages he created himself and Google seems to rank him above everyone else - excluding eBay.

If you have nothing informative to say, why bother posting... I am trying to find out whether Google allows this sort of thing and will like to know if we all could start using this to benefit our websites. ;)

well an answer might be that i've noticed in my few months of doing this is that google will sometimes work with links like this for a limited time and then your page will drop in rankings, there's no specific threshold its just what google determines to be abnormal behavior. I am however new at this so I may be wrong.:)

Sorry but I found the above response to be quite funny :)

To answer you the links all from his site are internal so unless he has some strong external links pointing at them it would be irrelevant to begin with. Secondly the URL's may no longer exist and it could just be a simple 404 page.

Would a similar scheme improve other sites rankings? I doubt it because all the links would be coming from useless sources internally and would carry little to no weight for the search engines.

Google is unpredictable I have seen many sites ranking without backlinks or good content they are just a stupid forum post spamming a keyword, this is why in may believe google searches stink
