A company has burst onto the scene and taken over my search engine rankings in Google. Upon visiting their page, I noticed what seemed to be abuse of the AdSense program. http://www.dsnhouse.com/british_columbia/chilliwack/computer_repair.php Can anyone confirm what they are doing as abuse?
Where are you talking about? If you mean the AdSense ads on the home page the answer is no. What could possibly be abusive about this? It is clearly one of the display options Google offers.
Well it is obvioulsy a site developed for the sole purpose of displaying adsense ... if you report it and google takes action (i am doubting they will) then post back here. There are so many like this I would like to report but the couple I did had no action taken.
My question is why would anyone click on one of those ads anyway? I would think that a person would open the page, see it's just a bunch of ads and leave.
it definitely does look like it was made just for adsense- if that's what you were objecting to, then you're right. if you're objecting to having the ads displayed being "blended in" so close to the content- there's nothing wrong with that at all. we use it here: www.ffshrine.org/ffx/ffx.php etc. it helps the click-through-rate quite a bit
disgust - nicely done! I was looking for the adsense bar all over the page for at least 30 seconds before I could find the ads.
from the terms-of-service: "Incentives Web pages may not include incentives of any kind for users to click on ads. This includes encouraging users to click on the ads or to visit the advertisers' sites as well as labeling the ads with text other than "sponsored links" or "advertisements." "
NewComputer, This entire thread just smells of sour grapes. You have just decide that anybody who ranks higher than you must be doing something wrong. Quite whining and go do some work on your own site. As one Canadian to another I have to tell you that it doesn't look good to our US cousins to be moaning and bitching like this all the time.
Well I have a page on my website that goes into ADSENSEMASTERING but I do not want to post a link lest I become controversial. Hate to keep saying I told you so folks.
What did you tell us that is germane to this thread Anthony? NewComputer thought that the use of the term "Sponsored Links" was abusive. Almost anyone else in the world thinks that not using that phrase is abusive. Google has always been up front about their sponsored links. Other SE have not been so forth coming and these are the SEs that are in trouble. So what have you "told us about"? Is Google evil for plainly stating that links are sponsored or paid for? NewComputer thinks it is a conspiracy because somebody elses page ranks ahead of his. What makes you think "sponsored links" on this page is a conspiracy.
Listen Compar, If you really 'read' my original thread you would see that I was not whining about anything. Here I will cut and paste for you again "A company has burst onto the scene and taken over my search engine rankings in Google. Upon visiting their page, I noticed what seemed to be abuse of the AdSense program." There are two sentences there. Which are two different topics. Topic #1 new company who has taken over my spot for certain terms. Topic #2 - Abuse of AdSense. Where do you hear whining? Besides, who the hell are you to assume I am whining and put no time into my SEO. You have got some nerve....
Well Bob I have been telling you a long time that Google favors ADSENSE partners in the SERP's, did you forget all of that? In addition to that Google loves ADSENSEMASTERS so much that some have thousands of links, one after the other, did you forget that also. Sometimes memories are very selective, no offence Bob, but I have been discussing these things since 11/2003
Why would you be so worried about it anyhow? Are you really concerned if someone else is making money too?
Nope, but if it isnt against their TOS, then I would do it to. The entire problem I see here is 'sponsored links'. If it is okay to do that then I will have to redesign my site a little. They may be making money that I could be making
Danny Sullivan is writing about this same issue. http://www.clickz.com/experts/search/opt/article.php/3358551 You will find the question of "does Google favor ADSENSE publishers" mentioned in the article, the very same issue I have been talking about since 11/2003
That article talks about Yahoo saying Google favors Adsense publishers in defense of their (Yahoo's) paid inclusion program. Big deal, I would expect yahoo to make this claim. Why wouldn't they? Proof of some kind please
Proof? Look at the links on this webpage www.webcenter.squarespace.com If you need more proof, I will be happy to provide it.
