Is This a Sign of Imminent Listing in DMOZ

Discussion in 'ODP / DMOZ' started by monkeyads, Oct 17, 2005.

Was just looking at the logs for one of my sites and noticed a visitor from

    http://editors.dmoz.org/editor/ETC, ETC ETC

If I try to check out the origin it demands my editor name and password.
Thus, I will conclude that the editor of my little desired area of DMOZ stopped by.

Question: Assuming the site passes the editor's standards and/or is not a competitive threat to their pet projects, how long does it generally take from here to get a listing? Anyone ever notice?

    It could mean:
    1) an editor checked to see if it waiting in the right category
    2) an editor checked and moved it to another category
    3) an editor checked and rejected it
    4) an editor checked and decided to leave it waitng for now
    5) an editor checked and decided to list it (check in a few days)
    6) Someone is playing with you and spoofed the referral.
    7) You posted in a forum and an editor when to check the URL history and then went to the site from there to have a look..
    8) etc etc

1-5 are all possibilities, 6 & 7 (fortunately) are not.

    Appreciate the observation and analysis.

One thing I am curious about is how long it takes from editor approval to inclusion (if, indeed approval happened), generally speaking.

It depends - do I have time to write a guidelines compliant description when I made the decision that your site should be included in a category where I have editing privileges?

If I do, then I write the description, hit the update button, and the site is listed.

If I don't have the time right now, it could be days, weeks, or months before I go back to that category and look at your site again.

Personally, I try not to look at sites when I don't have time to write descriptions - but sometimes the "correct" description will not come to mind, or I saw one to many of "those" kind of sites, or I got tired in the middle of a review, or my granddaughter (cute little 10 month old) came to visit, or ....

I'm pretty sure the correct answer is 8.

6 and 7 are in fact possible, fortunate or otherwise.

8 is definitely more likely. :D

6 and 7 are possible, I suppose, but extremely unlikely.

The site in question has never had a forum link of any sort and I don't believe anyone has ever mentioned the URL of the site to anyone, really.

The site in question is a little adsense-monetized blog project that really belongs to my wife. Considering its insulated nature, etc., I just don't see 6 or 7 being likely.

I am beginning to believe 8 is very likely, too.
