Is this a penalty?

I have found keyword which no competition. I registered domain with that name. I put up on site with unique content and put sitewide link from my 2 sites 2 years old with a different class C ip. Both of them PR5 and PR4. My site ranked #1 because it has no competition for 3 days and then suddenly disappeared to 571 and 752 for my preferred keywords. I have done this link method to others site before without any problem but this site got dumped. I checked and found no problem with indexed. Is this a something called sandbox or google dance? Is this normally or I just got penalized for put links from older sites to newer site? If so, why others site I did before did not have problem but this site has.

I checked with allinanchor and allintitle, just still number one for one keyword and still number 231 for second keywords. What happened?

 

I don't think you can be penalised for putting your domain name on an older site. Although if you can tell me the domain name then i can say more about the same.

no your site is not penalized for that, it might happen that u have placed sitewide links and now google is giving less weight to site wide links. it will be batter if u put that link only home page. as u told your site is new so at the beginning it happen, some time u r on first page and suddenly thrown on back. just wait for some days u will be back.
try to put related metas on your site. it will be batter for us to give reply if u give your domain name.

Nope it is not a penalizaiton, it is most probably the Google dance. And apparently that keyword has some competition since you rank at 500+ rank. If you continue building backlinks with the desired keyword as anchor text you will see your site scaling the serps slowly. So don't let your self down.

 

It's been like this for years. If you get good links upfront your site may rank in top#10 for 1-2 weeks most. Then it's sandboxed!

I did not see this apply to extremely competitive keywords in the last year but it may apply to the less competitive.

And site-wide links are hazardous to your health.
