A few weeks ago I was contacted by someone from a company called Win Technologies who wanted to purchase a banner on 1 of my websites for a yearly fee of $500 dollars. All seemed normal until he wanted me to issue him a "Payment request" via Paypal. I have been selling links and banners for a few years and this was the first time I had heard of a Payment request so I googled it and I couldn't find any serious ways how this can be used to scam me. 1.5 weeks passed and now suddenly I got the $500 to my Paypal account. My question to you guys - is this some kind of a scam or should I be happy that I got the money? Some other things that make me suspicious: They offered me about 2 times more than I usually ask (They offered the money before I could ask anything) They didn't negotiate for a better price They sent me the money without me publishing the banner first They haven't sent me the banner yet Is this a scam?
No, its not a scam. A lot of companies need invoices so its fairly normal that they would ask that you make them an invoice or payment request.
Seems legitimate. If you didn't receive the cash then I'd be worried. Usually paypal scams involve buying digital purchases online and since PayPal does not cover intangible goods a lot of times buyers will lose their money even when they don't receive the items they purchased.
Thanks! I thought that maybe there is a scam where he sent me the money but lets say after 6 months he reverses the payments and I will be out of money but the ad will already have been on the site for half a year.
Many company ask for the payment request because it is a way to prove to the IRS where are the money gone.
Be carefull...Keep the money in paypal account. google the sender email ID etc... to see if any details comes in if its good company then call them (if they have a website and you can get number),ask them to send you banner
I've had people ask me to send them a payment request so they could charge it on their business card/have an invoice to file.
Just wanted to let you know that it seems that it was not a Payment scam. I got paid and have since put their ad up. There doesn't seem to be any problems so I am now quite confident that it was not a scam.
