I'm truly fed up of all these stupid spam mails and pop up ads. Especially when they're from shitty companies who pretend to be selling a service but are just trying to steal my hard earned cash and/or damage my computer. So... all this made me wonder if I could harness my hate into a useful website... Suppose I had a webpage that allowed the visitor to input the URL of an offending site. The web page would contain javascript that would constantly reload the offending page, thus draining resources. a - would this be legal? b - would this be a good idea? I'd be wary of putting adsense or any other PPC ads on the page for fear of revenge click attacks. If enough people used the web page it could help reduce spam. Leaving a browser window open in the background, with the aim of draining spam resources, would not be a problem for most people. However, it could also be used to attack legitimate sites, and I wouldn't want that.
If I was evil.......I would use your site to attack my competitors. Muhahahah, therefore you faced any charges of 'theft of services' or 'criminal mischief'. Not saying I'm evil, but can you make sure you post your new site URL when it's done. tom
There is a website which i dealing with spammers/scammers http://www.419eater.com/ You can pickup some spammers from here. You would get in trouble with this idea at some stage, cause there are always some destructive minds at work who would want to see their competitors website down or raise their hosting bills.
The 419 thing is a different kettle of fish. It's about baiting the poor chaps from third world countries who try to steal from gullible people in developed countries. The people I want to hit are the companies like winfix** or the popup firms. Would I really face the charges of "theft of service" if the script ran locally on the user's machine, and they were the ones who entered to URL's?
Yes it's illegal. It's similar to a DOS attack and will land you in prison if you piss off anybody with a bank account
