It really depends on the people, no definite stat, but in theory it should work, you could also use Facebook's in house PPC service and try and get more fans that way

You need a fan page and then you need to engage your fans with something that they want.
It's a social site so no rushing into hard selling, but build your relationship first

The facbook fanpage is best way to promote any particular website and if you have game site then it has more chance to be get success as majority of the users of FB are from 13 to 18 age group which can increase the chance of success as these age group kids to play online game and if u have some budget then u can promote your page with PPC and have vast amount of traffic and likes
