didn't know where to put it and it's not too urgent here are the stats fortress itx datacenter in new jersey pentium 4 3.0 ghz hyperthreading 1mb superfast cache 1 gig ram 120 gb SATA fully server-managed cpanel, whm+whmxtra centos open source rhe 139.99 a month?
Sounds good... what hosting company? You should also do a check for any threads about it at WHT to avoid bad surprises later on...
That sounds about right, but yea checking on the hosting company should take priority over the server specs.
it's beachcomber, i've been with them before on a reseller account then moved away because they had no VPS's available and didn't want to make the jump to a dual with one of my sites. i checked on WHT and people seem happy with them
yup i have, but i dont know how to manage a server...they don't install anything for you do they? i just need cpanel and whm as well as php mysql
They do install and setup everything for you. I have got couple of servers with them. Their price and support are very good.
ThePlanet Data Center imo one of the best, I would go directly to the source though not through a reseller, you can get 3.2's for 139$ if there not sold out
I have worked with Mark in the past on a few things and he was a great guy to deal with. He really seemed to care about his customers.
From a technical perspective: If you can afford it and if downtime is critical to your sites, I would recommend a RAID-1 set-up. Hard disk failures are the first or second most common hardware failure cause. Also backups (weekly, daily?) are a good thing to have (but extremely rare or/and extremely expensive). Good luck, Christophe
what exactly is RAID-1? (too lazy to google atm as i have to head out the door) i do manual backups and save them to a local computer myself.
RAID1: 2 hard disks are exact copies of each other. So if one disk fails you still have the system running. You just replace the failed disk and let the system replicate to the second hard disk. ------------------------------------------------------ Very good habit. Don't foget to do this regularly (including databases). Hardware failures are very rare but they do happen.
ahhh that is what i thought regarding the RAID and yeah...ive had one of those failures and it sucked, which is why i do it now (The failure happened on my home computer - lost my graduating essay )
check out surpasshosting.com ; very good uptime, reliable connection, and very good pricing. give them a call, their sales people may be able to work something out depending on your needs.
