Is this a good idea?

To make my site more appealing and to market it better, I removed all but one of my google adsense ads. I'm not focused on income as much as I am for traffic, so is this a good idea to help build up loyal users? Then when I start getting more and more users, I gradually start putting up more ads.

    Is this a good idea?

if you intend to sell the site later, it might be counter productive, as it will make the site appear to be less profitable than it actually could be.

How intrusive are the ads, that you think they might be putting people off? Most people I know automatically mentally 'blank out' adsense blocks in the same way they blank out banners.

I think you should be focusing more on providing valuable information to your reader. Give them a reason to come back so you can create a loyal customer who would be frequently visiting your site.

Great content, resources and the like will bring your readers back as already mentioned, and as also mentioned in a way - if you're content, information and resources are of great quality, your readers will be back without regard to ads on the site so long as they're well integrated, on point and not all over the place. However, if you're putting in a paragraph or two and an ad unit in between, it will look like you are focused on the loot and not the loyalty to your readers.

All things in moderation, I guess ...

Best of luck and safe surfing!

I don't see how removing ads could possibly improve any site's content. One really easy way to improve your site's content is to stop "sanitizing" it. For example, if you're blogging - add some personal flavor to the posts. Raw content is like raw food. Sure - you can eat food raw - and you purchase raw food at a supermarket where profit margins are razor slim.

However, serving up content with your "special flare" is like opening a restaurant and serving food that is prepared and cooked.

Add spice, flavor and originality to your posts - and don't ever forget who your target audience is.

That's they key to creating content that gets readers coming back for more.

It depends on your return visitor rate. If the bulk of your traffic is from repeats, and you feel ads are hurting your return visitor rate, then maybe scale back the ads. I don't know about getting rid of them, but scale back the garbage ads and focus on a smaller amount of laser targetted ads.

But if you have a low visitor return rate, and it's mostly unique visitors, then you're dealing with a lot of missed opportunities to make money.

Maybe sub your ads out for opt-in boxes for your e-mail/social media accounts to build up some regular followers. I think that would be a good use of your ad space, and you can later monetize those platforms once you have a solid following.

ya, it depends on your future exit strategy for this site.. if you want to flip it out,, site buyers are more intersted in the site with adsense income (it is more stable and estimated).. but if your goal to promote affiliate product.. you can test it becuase sometime too much ads on your site would distract visitors from your affilite products.

of course that's a good idea. nobody likes to see a website filled with advertisements. Even the most average internet users can tell if a website is operating for the sole purpose of making money. If you're starting up a blog and trying to attract long term readers then it is basically essential to remove the majority of your ads so your readers can focus on your content.

There is nothing wrong with having some ads on your blog or website. Some of the biggest blogs in the world have lots of ads on their website but they can do this because they have established a large reader base and have built up a reputation that allows for them to put up some ads on their site to cover the operating expenses of the website.

The best way to build loyal users is to have something unique to say. People may complain about too much advertising (it is something you should consider monitoring) but they will ignore it as long as there is value somewhere.
